Despite the global pandemic that had befallen upon us, the year 2020 was a year of weddings. Unconventional weddings, if we could say so. From having only 50 people for a wedding to donning masks with the weddings attires, we had seen everything. While some celebrity weddings were a grand affair with proper media coverage of every function, some were hush-hush weddings. TV actor and comedian, Balraj Syal had an intimate, hush-hush wedding. Balraj Syal had tied the knot with singer, Deepti Tuli on August 7, 2020, in Jalandhar, Punjab in an intimate ceremony with just 25 people present. In an interview with The Times of India, the comedian had revealed the lovebirds had met in July last year, during a shoot in Chandigarh. According to Balraj, he had developed an instant liking for her, but Deepti hadn't liked him much as she hadn't responded to his text messages. Well, the rest is history as the couple is living their happily ever after together now!
Now, in an interview with ETimes, Balraj Syal talked about his marriage and a lot of things. The comedian revealed that he used the money from the dating reality show, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge in which he participated. Balraj said, "The show I did (Mujhse Shaadi Karoge), I utilized the money that I made from it to marry my real-life partner Deepti Tuli. I did not betray my job, Maine Shaadi waale show se joh paise kamaye woh apni shaadi mein he kharch kiye (laughs)." Talking about his decision of getting married during the lockdown, Balraj said, "I was living on my own terms when I was a bachelor and decided to give up on my own. Now, my life is not of my own, but it is definitely better than before."
Talking about his wife, Deepti's impact on his life, Balraj further said, "Earlier, I used to behave or do what I felt like doing, but now, my wife Deepti guides me what to do and what not to. She tells me what can go against me and what are the things that will help me be a better person. Life has changed but it has changed for good. It has become better. I feel there would have not been a better time to get married. For us (artists), when we decide to get married generally we have to take a break for the wedding preparations and to spend time with our partner. But because of the pandemic, we were already on break and we did not have to take any holiday." Balraj then talked about having an intimate wedding ceremony amidst the pandemic and said, "I am very happy with one thing that when you get married no matter how many people you invite you tend to forget some or the other friend. In our case, everyone got upset because I invited none of them. I remember once I was having a conversation with Kapil bhai (Kapil Sharma) and he told me that he had spent a lot of money but there were few friends who he couldn't invite. I told him yes I agree because he had not invited me as well. So, I gave nobody a chance to get upset with me. We were only allowed to have 25 people out of which there were three photographers, one priest and other 21 were family members and us. I feel we got married at the right time and I am fortunate that the audience has showered an equal amount of love on my wife Deepti. Whenever we work together, they give us love and only love."

Balraj Syal's wife, Deepti Tuli chipped in, "Yes, I feel we were meant to be together and that's why we got married. We are together and are very happy. When I was about to get married to Balraj, he was not at all related to music and I was scared about my future. Whenever I saw him listening to music, I always felt that what would happen to my career because he would listen to something totally different which I don't listen to. But slowly he started showing interest in my music and started adding his views and opinions. This is the biggest change that I have seen in my life. Rest we are very much the same."
