Thereafter, the groom’s mother visits the bride’s house with a gold or silver coin wrapped in a silk cloth. This cloth is then tied around the bride’s wrist. This is known as the Imam Zamin ceremony. It is after this ceremony, that the engagement takes place.

The ceremony of mehendi is one of the most exciting pre-wedding functions of a Muslim wedding. According to the custom, the bride’s mother is the first person to put a dot of mehendi on her daughter’s hand. And later on, other relatives can draw that special bridal mehendi. It is also believed that after the mehendi ceremony, the bride should not step out of the house until the wedding day. A maang tikka is an important ornament of a Muslim bride's attire. It is immaculately noticeable and a completely elegant piece of jewellery. Apart from wearing the one worn in the centre of the head, the Muslim brides wear another maang tikka, known as the jhoomar or passa. It is usually a triangular fan shaped accessory, and is worn on the left parting of their hair.

During the Nikah ceremony, the bride and the groom are made to sit in separate rooms, or there is a curtain between them, so that they cannot see each other. The Maulvi (priest) recites phrases from the holy Quran and then waits for couple’s approval to accept it. It is after the joyous tones of qubul hai, a wedding is said to be solemnised.
The groom pledges to be obedient and faithful towards the bride, and the bride in return pledges to remain supportive to her forever.
