Ben Stiller is one of the most popular comic actors in Hollywood, who has starred in cult-classics such as the Night at the Museum franchise and Zoolander, among others. His epic comedy timing comes from his parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, the popular comedy duo. However, among the Stillers, there has been one member of the family who has struggled to reach the heights of fame like the other members.
That is Ben's older sister, Amy. A comedian and actress like the rest of the Stillers, she has had to struggle a lot to carve a niche for her in the entertainment industry while her parents and brother dominated the field. Although Amy Stiller has found fame as well, it wasn't an easy path. Here's everything to know about Ben Stiller's sister, Amy.
Amy Stiller was born to Jerry and Anne in 1961. And in 1965, they welcomed her younger brother, Ben Stiller. Their parents were a well-known stand-up comedy duo. Later, they entered the showbiz and starred in different projects. Jerry made a name through Seinfield, meanwhile, Anne became famous for her role in The Other Woman.
As a result of having popular parents, Amy and Ben would go for extensive periods without seeing them, who were often busy working. The actor shared with The Sunday Times that he and Amy would miss their parents a lot, and when they returned, the siblings would perform skits for them. However, due to this fame, Amy and Ben got to step into showbiz very early in their life. In 1974, the siblings were taken to a chat show by their parents, where they played the violin in front of the camera for a funny bit. Recalling this moment, Ben had shared:
“They just wanted to fill that segment, choose a skit. They thought that it would be cute and I never felt they were trying to exploit us. They were just trying to be entertaining.”
Ben Stiller started to get more and more recognition after getting his big break in the 1998 film, There's Something About Mary. As more successful films followed, he had established himself as a popular actor for the comedy genre just like his parents. Prior to that, Ben had worked as a writer for Saturday Night Live. Meanwhile, during this time Amy had to struggle a lot and resorted to working as a waitress. In their family documentary, Stiller and Meara: Nothing is Lost, Amy said to Ben:

“I just remember when I did the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet, I just remember I want to do this. That’s why all those years when I was waitressing and you were getting famous, do you know how f***ing hard that was for me? Some of it was character building, but to a point.”
Amy also said in the documentary that having famous parents was also a reason why she had a hard time making her path towards stardom. She revealed that her father's overprotectiveness had 'stifled' her. Additionally, Amy also said that she had a lot of pressure to live up to everyone's expectations as the oldest child. She stated:
“Dad had an overprotectiveness that would stifle me, and I felt, like, paralyzed. The thing is, you had something you could sink your teeth into. I don’t remember, for me, anything that I felt that way about...I just felt intimidated because I was the oldest. Like, I had all these expectations. And it was a really tough time for women.”
Although it was harder for her than her brother, Amy Stiller has also now established her name as an actress. She has appeared in many popular projects such as Friends, Zoolander, and more. She was also part of the popular series, Severance, created by her brother, Ben. Amy's Instagram bio describes her as:
"Actress and naturally funny person who sometimes does standup or some iteration of it and was very shy when she was 14."
