Bhumi Pednekar is currently gearing up for her upcoming film, Bhakshak, wherein she will be seen playing the role of an 'investigative journalist', who is trying to save girls from sexual abuse. Directed by Pulkit and produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma, Bhakshak features many other eminent actors alongside Bhumi Pednekar, such as Sanjay Mishra, Aditya Srivastava and Sai Tamhankar. Thus, while promoting her film, she sat for a candid conversation and opened up about some horrific incidents she faced during her teen years.
In an interview with Hauterrfly, Bhumi Pednekar opened up about a horrific incident she had faced at the mere age of 14 years. The actress mentioned that although she was with her family at that time, she couldn't stop getting inappropriately touched in a crowded space. The traumatic incident that continues to haunt her was when a stranger kept pinching her buttocks when she went to a fair in Bandra with her family. Later, looking back, she couldn't understand who had done it because it was very crowded. Elaborating the same, she stated:

"Somebody tried touching me inappropriately again and again, and I was getting paranoid. Though I was with my family, there also was a whole bunch of kids from my building as well. But I didn’t say anything at that time because I was thrown off by what had happened.”

In the same conversation, Bhumi mentioned how such incidents have a lasting impact, and she still remembers how the poking and the pinching felt. She added, "It’s like your body remembers… these are traumas that you can’t get over.” Following this, Bhumi also revealed that her friends have also gone through such horrifying incidents. Recalling one such incident when an autorickshaw driver in Juhu had flashed his private parts to her friends right outside their school area, the actress talked about many more such instances. She further spoke about being traumatised due to the same and mentioned:
"We used to walk back home during that time. He would ‘do his business’ (in front of us). This is a sickness. How do you reach that stage of such heightened emotion that you think this is normal? A lot of it comes from education. (When facing such incidents) At that moment, you are so paralysed and traumatised, you just don’t know what to do… You feel so violated.”
Bhumi is also one actress, who often becomes the target of online trolling and body-shaming. Despite having a perfectly toned physique and chiselled abs, people keep trolling her by claiming that the diva has undergone stomach surgery. In an old interview with News18 Showsha, Bhumi said that no matter what someone does, people never stop trolling them. Elaborating on how people will still troll her if she wears clothes from head to toe, she mentioned that earlier, all such comments on fashion choices and body-shaming were limited within the four walls, but it has now spread out. Talking more about the same, Bhumi was quoted as saying:
"No matter what you do, people will troll. Trolling has become so normal now. I could put up a post during a festival in a so-called ‘fully clothed’ version of myself and people will still troll. During promotions, we went all out looking like the best versions of ourselves. Earlier, only family members used to troll you but now it has spread far and wide beyond your home. I’ve developed a thick skin now because I’ve been hearing things like how I would start looking more beautiful if I lose a few kilos, right since my childhood. I was questioned as to why I wear short dresses.”

Further in the interview, Bhumi Pednekar said that during her debut film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, she wanted to wear dresses according to her choice, but people used to look at her differently. The diva shared that during that time, she had to listen to several mean comments, and she was even being questioned if she was sure to wear short clothes. Thus, it gave birth to a fire in her belly, which is when she started rigorously working out. It seems she has indeed worked extremely hard and reached the place where she is now.
