'Bigg Boss 19's Unique Theme And Format Revealed? Everything To Expect From The New Season

Hosted by Salman Khan again, Bigg Boss 19 has roused people's anticipation regarding the upcoming show. As the makers of the show like to keep everything hush-hush until the very end, there is always a mystery before each season starts. However, rumours are circulating, and speculation is rife about the potential theme and format of the show. With Salman Khan returning as the host again and the show likely to premiere in August, here is everything to expect from the 19th season of India's most controversial show, Bigg Boss. 

Bigg Boss 19 premiere date 'confirmed'

According to a report by the insider informant page on X, Bigg Boss Tak, the upcoming Bigg Boss 19 is set to premiere on TV screens in August 2025. The page says that this information is 'confirmed'. The information also suggests that the makers will first run the TV version for three and a half months. The OTT version will follow later. For previous seasons of Bigg Boss, the OTT show comes first, followed by the TV version. Salman Khan is also expected to start shooting for the Bigg Boss 19 promo in July 2025. Amid all these, the makers will make an announcement soon, said a report by News18. 

Bigg Boss 19's 'Rewind' theme and format

The core format of Bigg Boss has always been 10-20 contestants inside a house, trapped together and devoid of all contact with the outside world, while the voice of 'Bigg Boss' gives them tasks to compete with each other and be safe from eliminations. However, from fourth season and onwards the show has been based upon themes. For example- Bigg Boss 7 had 'Hell and Heaven' theme. Similarly for this season, Bigg Boss Tak says that the theme is 'Rewind'.

After season 13 of the show, won by late actor, Sidharth Shukla, Bigg Boss's TRP has not performed well. Hence, reportedly, the makers are trying to bring back the old charm by tapping into nostalgia. Moreover, in Bigg Boss, contestants nominate each other and are then voted out by the audience. However, as per reports, in season 19 audience will be nominating the contestants and then there might be tasks or some other activity which will eliminate the player. Also keeping up with the 'Rewind' theme and OG Bigg Boss vibes, only celebrities will be brought in as contestants, and neither influencers nor commoners will be included. 

Netizens react to the theme and format announcement of Bigg Boss 19

The later seasons of Bigg Boss, especially after season 13, had deviated too much from the original rules and format of the game. Luxury budget tasks, captaincy tasks and weekly nominations, all of these chaotic and entertaining activities had been removed. Viewers had also noticed that 'Bigg Boss', who used to only speak during serious matters or to enforce rules, frequently interfered with the players' gameplay. Regarded as serious and a disciplinarian in the house, fans had also found jokes cracked by 'Bigg Boss' distasteful. So, a netizen on X said about the 'Rewind' theme:

"If it’s really Rewind…. Along with the secret room. Can we hope to see Jail time, Captaincy Task, Luxury Budget Task, nomination every week ? AND less interference by Bigg Boss. Let the contestants be themselves."

Many users also commented against players eliminating each other and taking the voting power out of the audience's hands. One X user said, "Audience Evict karein Aur contestants nominate karein... Tab jake kuch fair game hoga warna to sb dekh hi chuke hai last season". To note, Bigg Boss season 18 was heavily trolled for 'unfair evictions' where fan-favourite contestants were eliminated from the house by their fellow contestants. One commenter talked about this and wrote:

"Itna backlash ke baad bhi, contestants eviction karenge, @EndemolShineIND what's this??? @BiggBoss keep it original. Celebrities TV and Movies, tasks and audience eviction."
