Boney Kapoor is one of the renowned filmmakers in the industry. He is known for films, including Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Mom, Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe, Mr. India, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, and many others. Yet again, he is entangled in a fiasco related to the non-payment of dues of nearly Rs. 1 crore for one of his films.

Camera vendor files a case against Boney Kapoor and others for not clearing dues of nearly Rs. 1 crore

Boney Kapoor's much-anticipated film, Maidaan, is set to get a release on April 10, 2024, starring Ajay Devgn. It was delayed a number of times for many reasons, including the Mumbai Cyclone in 2019, destroying their sets, and many others. Now, as per a report in Mid-day, a camera vendor, Ninad Nayampally from Meherafrin Investments Private Limited has filed a case at a civil court in Dindoshi, Mumbai, against Boney Kapoor and the other producers. Advocate, Namrata Biyawat opened up about the same to the portal and revealed:

“We have filed a suit in City civil court Dindoshi for recovery of dues of about Rs. 1 cr against Bayview Projects LLP, Boney Kapoor, other directors, Zee Studio Ltd., Anurava Joy Sengupta and Akash Chawla. We have filed for interim relief for stay in screening of the film ‘Maidaan’. We have also filed for attaching the rights of the film. The announcement of the film's release, absent any payment, suggests a disregard for our clients financial agreement. The hearing is tomorrow. I cannot quote more than this the matter is subjudice “

The same report also gave insight into certain WhatsApp conversations between Boney Kapoor and the vendor. The first screenshot of the chat showed how the vendor had a repeated enquiry about their dues, dated back in 2023. Finally, there was a reply from Boney's side after a few subsequent messages from the vendor, and the latter was asked for a meeting on August 14/15, 2023. However, the later messages show that there was no such meeting ever occurred between them.

Earlier, in another interview with Mid-Day, Boney Kapoor was asked about the issue concerning non-payment of dues to the camera vendor. To this, he had clarified about owning Rs. 63 lakhs to Meherafrin Investments Private Limited, not Rs. 1 crore as claimed by the latter. In Boney's words:

“I have spoken to my team, and he (Ninad) has been told that he would be paid before the release of the picture, which is only a month away. Not only that, but other vendors have also been promised the same. Everybody knows that the movie was stuck because of COVID. I have made 45 films, and nobody has been deprived of my company. There is no way that I will avoid any kind of payment. This is nothing but an arm-twisting tactic. I will clear whatever the bill is, excluding interest on the pending amount. We will reply to whatever is mentioned in the suit in court, but he can’t seek an injunction before Rs 63 lakh is paid.”
