Boney Kapoor hit the headlines when he followed his heart and eloped to marry superstar diva, Sridevi despite being already married to his first wife, Mona Shourie. The couple tied the knot in a secret temple wedding in 1996, while Sridevi was already pregnant with her first child, Janhvi. They later welcomed their daughter, Khushi in the year 2000. Unfortunately, Boney and Sridevi’s journey of togetherness was short-lived as the latter passed away most shockingly in 2018, leaving her loved ones bereaved forever. Even today, Boney as well as his daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor turn emotional remembering Sridevi.
The iconic superstar, late Sridevi was an epitome of extreme talent, grace and beauty, and she made sure to rule the silver screens till her last day. Evidently, she made one last appearance on celluloid with the film, Mom that was released in 2017. The film created a severe uproar among her fans and critics who immensely loved her performance. Thus posthumously, she was conferred the IIFA Award for Best Actress in 2018. It was a touching moment as the late actress’ husband, Boney Kapoor had walked up the stage and received the award on her behalf. Sadly, he completely broke down in tears at that moment and was consoled by his son, Arjun Kapoor. Thereafter, in a voice choked with emotions, he said:
“I miss her every moment of my life.”

Well, seeing such a condition of his dear brother, Anil Kapoor who was sitting in the audience could not control himself as he rushed to the stage. He comforted a grieved Boney Kapoor and took over the mic conveying their heartfelt message about Sridevi’s absence from their lives. He mentioned:
“She was a true genius. The country, the world and our family misses you.”
Janhvi Kapoor has always been a mumma’s girl and thus Sridevi’s untimely death left a gaping hole in her heart which would always remain so. The actress misses her mother dearly and very often she is spotted speaking candidly about Sridevi in many of her interviews. For instance, once in an interview with Barkha Dutt, Janhvi recalled the terrible days following her mom’s passing away and mentioned how in a quite weird sense she felt a relief. In her words:
“When I lost mom, of course, there was this huge tragedy, there was a hole in my heart. But there was this horrible feeling of ‘something bad has happened’ to justify all the great things in my life and all the privileges and the things that I got easily which I heard my entire life. I thought ‘Ok now something bad has happened. I deserve this. I deserve this horrible thing that has happened to me. It was a weird sense of relief."

Post Sridevi’s death, Boney Kapoor has survived the pain of not just losing his wife, but also a best friend and her partner meant for a lifetime of togetherness. While the talented filmmaker has replaced grief with fond memories with the passage of time, there can never be a replacement for Sridevi in his life. For instance, on February 21, 2023, Boney Kapoor had taken to his IG handle and dropped a monochromatic picture of the late actress as he remembered her ahead of her 5th death anniversary. Along with the picture, he wrote:
“You left us 5 years back …… your love and memories will keep us going and will remain with us forever."
