Baahubali, the blockbuster film, starring Prabhas, Ramya Krishnan, Rana Daggubati and more, is a fan favourite. Each and every actor played their respective roles so well in the movie that if any kind of replacement were to take place, fans would not accept it wholeheartedly. However, did you know that the makers approached Bollywood’s first female superstar, Sridevi, for the role of 'Sivagami'? Yes, you read it right. However, the director, SS Rajamouli, dropped her from the project for her high demands. Now, the late actress's husband and film producer, Boney Kapoor, talked about the same and lashed out at the producer for creating a misunderstanding between Sridevi and SS Rajamouli.
In a recent episode of Game Changers, Boney Kapoor revealed why Sridevi didn't appear as 'Sivagami' in the film, Baahubali. The film producer shared that SS Rajamouli was a big fan of Sridevi, and when the duo met, the director’s respect towards her increased. He mentioned that Sridevi didn’t work in the movie due to the confusion created by the producers. In fact, the film producer also revealed that the actress was offered a salary which was less than what she earned in English Vinglish. He was quoted as saying:
"The film with Rajamouli didn’t happen, but I still have his text saying he was a fan of Sridevi as an actor. She didn’t work in that film because of the confusion that was created by the producers. Rajamouli had come to our place and had a conversation about the film. When he went out of the room, the producers offered her less money than what she got for English Vinglish. She wasn’t a struggling actor; you’re getting mileage out of her. Why would I want my wife to do that?"
In the same conversation, Boney shared that it was producer, Shobu Yarlagadda of Arka Media Works, who created the misunderstanding between SS Rajamouli and Sridevi. He mentioned that the way, they called Sridevi 'unprofessional', is totally wrong. Boney expressed that the way things turned out in the end was not acceptable, as the producers could have politely stated that they were unable to give the salary. In his words:
"The producers were the culprits who fed Rajamouli with wrong things. This Shobu guy was the one who did this, and maybe he didn’t want to part with that kind of money. To say things like ‘She was being unprofessional’ is wrong. So many directors like Rakesh Roshan, Yash Chopra, and Raghvendra Rao have all repeatedly worked with her. Why would they do that if she were unprofessional? But the way it didn't turn out was wrong. They could have said we could not pay this money."
Earlier, in an interview with NDTV, Sridevi opened up about the claims made by SS Rajamouli. For the unversed, after the release of Baahubali, the director told ABN Telugu that the Bollywood female superstar demanded Rs. 10 crores as fees, a complete hotel floor for her family and crew, and ten tickets from Mumbai to Hyderabad. These high demands didn’t align with the film's budget, for which the makers dropped her from the project.
Sridevi, in an interview with NDTV, clearly stated that this was nothing but a miscommunication, which left her heartbroken. She mentioned that the director must not have addressed the matter in a public forum like that. She was quoted as saying:

"When you hear such things about yourself, you really get hurt. I don’t know if the producer wrongly told Rajamouli that I made all these demands, or if there could have been some miscommunication. I think it is not in good taste to speak on a public platform like this."
