Boney Kapoor Mourns Family Matriarch Nirmal Kapoor's Demise, Shares Statement, 'Forever Cherished..'

The Kapoor family is grieving the loss of their beloved matriarch, Nirmal Kapoor, who bid adieu to the world at the age of 90 on May 2, 2025. She breathed her last at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, in the presence of her family. Since her passing, a wave of sadness and condolences has swept across the film industry, as Bollywood pays tribute to the woman who stood as the backbone of the iconic Kapoor clan. Her son, veteran filmmaker, Boney Kapoor, released a heartfelt statement on behalf of the family.

Boney Kapoor issues heartfelt statement after Nirmal Kapoor’s death

Film producer, Boney Kapoor, released an official statement on behalf of the Kapoor family to inform the world about Nirmal Kapoor’s demise. Taking to his Instagram, Boney captioned the post with a simple “Maa” followed by a pensive face emoji. The statement, which also included a picture of Nirmal Kapoor from her younger days, read:

“Passed away peacefully on the 2nd of May, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. She lived a full and joyful life, leaving behind four devoted children, loving daughters-in-law, a caring son-in-law, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of treasured memories. Her generous spirit and boundless love touched all who knew her. She will remain in our hearts – forever cherished, forever missed. Boney, Anil, Reena, Sanjay, Sunita, Sandeep, Maheep, Mohit, Akshay, Sonam, Arjun, Rhea, Harshvardhan, Anshula, Janhvi, Shanaya, Khushi, Jahaan, Antara, Anand, Aashita, Karan Thea, Vayu, Ayra, Yuvaan.”

Bollywood mourns the loss of Nirmal Kapoor

Nirmal Kapoor left behind her an enduring legacy through her children, Anil, Sanjay, Boney, and Reena Kapoor, and her extended family, including Reena, Arjun, Janhvi, Khushi, Sonam, Rhea, Harsh Varrdhan, among others. Soon after the news of her passing broke, several celebrities rushed to the Kapoor residence to offer their condolences and stand beside them in this challenging time. Among those spotted were Rani Mukherjee, Ananya Panday, Suhana Khan, Raveena Tandon and Rasha Thadani. 

The younger generation of Kapoors, including Sonam and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, were also seen grieving the loss of their beloved grandmother. Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s elder daughter, Janhvi Kapoor, was seen being consoled by her rumoured boyfriend, Shikhar Pahariya.

Nirmal Kapoor dies at 90

According to the reports of ANI, Nirmal Kapoor passed away on May 2, 2025, at around 5:25 p.m. at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital. The hospital’s director, Dr Santosh Shetty, shared that she died “peacefully”. Her funeral is scheduled for May 3, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Mumbai.

Who was Nirmal Kapoor?

Nirmal Kapoor was the wife of the late film producer, Surinder Kapoor, and the mother of four children: Boney, Anil, Sanjay, and Reena Kapoor Marwah. Known for her strength, grace, and unwavering support for her children and grandchildren, she became a central figure in one of Bollywood’s most prominent families. She was also the grandmother of several celebrated actors and producers, including Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, and Mohit Marwah.

In September 2024, the entire Kapoor clan had gathered to celebrate Nirmal’s 90th birthday. Anil Kapoor shared photos from the celebration, captioned:

“90 years of love, strength, and endless sacrifices. Your presence fills our lives with joy and positivity every day.”

As Bollywood continues to mourn her loss, Nirmal Kapoor’s legacy lives on in the stars she raised and the values of love and unity she passed on to future generations!
