2 Brothers In Plane Crash, 1 Survives: Family Struggles With Loss Of One Son And Survival Of Another

One of the worst aviation accidents took place on June 12, 2025, that shocked the nation. A London-bound Air India flight crashed in Ahmedabad right after it took off.  The number of casualties so far stands at 265, which includes 241 passengers on board and the rest from B.J. Medical College's hostel, into which the flight crashed.

Only one passenger, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, survived the tragic crash, but his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, lost his life on the same flight. Now, the brothers' family are struggling with being thankful for the miraculous recovery of one son while being distraught with the loss of another.

The survivor, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, had two brothers, Ajay Kumar Ramesh and Nayan Kumar Ramesh. It was Ajay who was travelling with him from Ahmedabad to London on the flight Air India AI171, while Nayan waited for them in London. However, the flight tragically crashed after only a few minutes of take-off. Both the brothers were on their way to their family and home in England. While Vishwas is admitted to a hospital after surviving the crash, Nayan talked about Ajay, who reportedly lost his life in the plane crash along with 240 other passengers. Talking to Sky News, he said:

"It's a miracle that he (Vishwash) survived, but what about other miracle for my other brother (Ajay)."

Vishwas Kumar Ramesh had video called his family during the Air India plane crash

In the interview with Sky News, Nayan Kumar Ramesh revealed that as the plane crashed, the lone survivor had video-called their father. As described by Nayan, in the video call, Vishwas told their father, "Ah, our plane crashed. I don't know where my brother (Ajay) is. I don't see any other passengers. I don't know how I am alive. I don't know how I exited the plane."

Nayan Kumar talked about the state of his family, who are grappling with an array of emotions

Nayan Kumar, in the same interview, emotionally looked towards his mother and said, '"You can look at the state of my mother." He then further said, "We are all just...I have got no words." He visibly struggled with expressing how their family was dealing with the loss and the miracle at the same time. To note, like many other passengers Ajay's body is yet to be found from the massive wreckage, but an official statement by Air India has confirmed that except for one passenger, everyone else has tragically passed away. Nayan talked about himself and said:

"I am scared to fly now. Or even sit on a plane now."
