'Bugonia' Movie Ending Explained, Is 'Michelle' An Alien And What Happens To Human Race? Find Out

Bugonia, released in the USA on October 24, 2025, is a dark science-fiction comedy film by Yorgos Lanthimos. The film stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, and more. Remake of the South Korean movie, Save The Green Planet, Emma Stone's newest offering is being hailed for its storyline, especially the twisted ending. So, here's what happened at the end of Bugonia

Is Emma Stone's 'Michelle' an alien in Bugonia

The protagonist of the film, 'Teddy' is a conspiracy theorist who kidnaps, 'Michelle', believing her to be an alien. His neurodivergent cousin, 'Dan' helps him with the abduction. Meanwhile, 'Michelle' is also the CEO of the pharmaceutical company, 'Auxolith', which ran tests on 'Teddy's mother, rendering her comatose. After torturing 'Michelle', the conspiracy theorist comes to the conclusion that she is a high-level member of the extra-terrestrial Andromedan race.

After a lot of things happen in the movie, 'Michelle' finds out that the remains of many people that 'Teddy' had tortured and killed were innocent people in his mission to find Andromedans and save planet Earth. 'Michelle' becomes furious and reveals to 'Teddy' that she is, in fact, an alien. Not only that, but she is also the empress of the Andromedans, who had created humans after accidentally killing dinosaurs after their arrival. However, at 'Auxolith', they were making a drug to evolve the humans, since they were dismayed with how much Earthlings had poisoned the planet and also turned against each other.

'Michelle' gives in to 'Teddy' and agrees to let him meet the Andromedans to negotiate with them about taking over Earth. However, the suicide vest that 'Teddy' revealed to be wearing goes off, and 'Michelle' becomes unconscious after being hit on the head during the explosion. After 'Michelle' escapes to her mothership, she consults with her council and lets them know that humans are beyond saving and have no compassion or empathy left. After witnessing the worst side of it, 'Michelle' kills all of humanity by popping a bubble over a model of Earth in her spaceship. The bleak ending shows the planet filled with corpses of people who died in an instant, in the midst of performing an action.

"Michelle really does, I believe, want very much to save the world. It's devastating to her in the end to have to make peace with the fact that they have become a poison to the planet and that the planet needs to move on. So even though there are some villainous moments within her, deep down, she does care about the promise of humanity and yet has been consistently disappointed by the reality of what people do to themselves and do to each other.”
