Rani Mukerji Opens Up About Whether Actresses Have A 'Shelf Life' In Bollywood After Marriage

It was on April 21, 2014, when Rani Mukerji had tied the knot with the well-acclaimed director of B-town, Aditya Chopra, in an intimate wedding ceremony. Rani and Aditya had a secret wedding. After a year-and-a-half post their marital bliss, the couple was blessed with a baby girl, Adira Chopra, a name which is an amalgamation of their names.

The lovely couple, Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra wanted Adira to have a 'normal childhood', so they kept her away from the shutterbugs and let her discreetly enjoy simple joys. While everyone thought that Rani would bid farewell to acting after the birth of her daughter, the actress has left everyone inspired by giving some stellar performances in her films, Hichki, Mardaani, and Mardaani 2.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rani Mukerji opened up about people's perspective around married actresses in Bollywood. Rani revealed whether actresses after their marriage have a shelf life in the film industry or it's just a myth created by some people about the Hindi film industry. On this, Rani Mukerji also stated that she isn't doing something unique or new by working after her marriage, as she has already seen many actresses who were and are working after their marriages. Calling it a completely normal thing, she said:

"From where I see it, there were married actresses back then. I don't think there is anything new that I am doing. There have been actresses who have worked being pregnant.I have heard stories of them being pregnant and shooting. So, I think it's just a myth that people think that married actresses or actresses with children can't really make it in films and there is shelf life."

In the same interview, when Rani Mukerji was enquired about how she had managed to deliver intense performances in films like Mardaani and Mardaani 2, after her marriage and pregnancy. The actress clearly stated that she always gives her heart and soul while preparing for a character. Also, she tries her best to get inside the skin of her role. However, she doesn't think the audience would have an issue with her until she is capable of doing this much hard work in her every role. Explaining her case, she said:

"It is important to create and carve your own niche and space so that people remember you for who you are and they don't remember you that you were like somebody else. For me personally, I feel as an actor I have to look like my character and till the day I look like my character and there is a believability there, age is not a factor actually. It is important that with each film or with each character that I play I have to look like that part. If that is in place then I don't think the audiences should have an issue."
