95, Year Old Astronaut, Buzz Aldrin Mourns The Loss Of His Wife, Anca Faur, Cause Of Death Revealed

Anca Faur Aldrin, the wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, has died at the age of 66. The engineer and executive passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu, by her side. The cause of death has now been revealed: Faur had been quietly battling a sporadic, aggressive form of cancer. A close friend of the family shared that although she 'fought it valiantly' and held an optimistic spirit until the end, the disease made a rapid turn.

Dr. Anca Aldrin, the wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, was put to rest last night, on October 29, 2025. Buzz paid tribute to his wife in a separate message, saying, "I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life." Her husband, Buzz, who is 95 years old, also added in his statement that his wife brought joy to everything they did together. He continued. "I will miss her dearly.” The post on Facebook read: 

"Mrs. Aldrin, an accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, served as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC."

The revelation of the cancer diagnosis adds a tragic depth to the story. A family member called Faur 'positive and courageous,' even as her health deteriorated, and said she was able to spend time with her husband and family in her dying days. Unlike many high-profile persons whose reasons of death remain unknown, the family friend appears to have chosen to emphasise both the disease's rarity and Faur's dogged struggle.

Buzz and Anca met at a work event in late 2017, and the pair started dating in 2018. On January 20, 2023, on Aldrin’s 93rd birthday, the couple married in a private ceremony, delightfully understated and intimate. Their marriage lasted just two years, and in the announcement of Anca’s passing, Aldrin stated:

"I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life. She brought joy to everything we did together. I will miss her dearly.” 

Who was Anca Faur?

Anca was born and educated in Romania before moving to the U.S and earning a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Her research included studies of acidity and reaction mechanisms on solid and liquid acid catalysts. Over the ensuing years, she built a career in sustainable technology and business management. She worked at the London-based chemical company Johnson Matthey for nearly two decades.

As a leader and innovator in hydrogen technology and clean energy research, Faur earned the respect of her colleagues throughout her career. As a strong advocate for women in STEM, she frequently encouraged young engineers to pursue scientific innovation without fear. She held leadership roles, including serving as treasurer of the California Hydrogen Business Council and Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC. Buzz was previously married to Joan Archer from 1954 to 1974, Beverly Van Zile from 1975 to 1978, and Lois Driggs Cannon from 1988 to 2012.
