Saif Ali Khan Stabbing: Can The Actor Seek Appeal Extension Over Govt Order On 15K Crore Properties?

Saif Ali Khan is also known as the 'Nawab' of Bollywood due to his royal lineage to Bhopal's Pataudi family. The actor's grandmother, Sajida Sultan Begum, was the daughter of Nawab Hamidullah Khan, the legal owner of the properties during India's Independence. However, the properties including palaces and vast gardens has been a subject of legal dispute for years. Although Saif recently arrived home after spending several days in the hospital after the knife attack on him, the issue related to his properties is already awaiting him.

Can Saif Ali Khan appeal for an extension in the enemy property case, citing knife attack on him?

Saif Ali Khan had earlier filed a plea against the government's decision to declare his 15 thousand crore property as 'enemy property' and take control over it. But, his plea was dismissed, and the Madhya Pradesh High Court gave his family a 30-day window from December 13, 2024 to file an appeal against it in the appellate tribunal. But they haven't taken any action yet.

Now, a few legal experts like Advocate Chhavani say that the family can file for an extension over the time window, citing a few reasons, including the recent knife attack on Saif Ali Khan at his residence in the early hours of January 16, 2025. For those unaware, after the attack, Saif Ali Khan was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital. He underwent surgery and returned home on January 21, 2025.

Why is Saif Ali Khan's 15 thousand crore property declared 'enemy property'?

After the 1965 Indo-Pak war, the Enemy property act was established that states properties belonging to the people who migrated to Pakistan or China will remain with the Custodian of Enemy Property. In Saif's case, after the death of Nawab Hamidullah Khan, who owned the properties, his eldest daughter went to Pakistan. So, his second daughter and Saif's grandmother, Sajida Sultan Begum, was recognised as the legal owner 1962. But, later, the government nullified the order and termed it as' enemy property.'
