Every Indian girl dreams of donning the prettiest lehenga or saree since the age of ten. We have grown up watching Bollywood films that made weddings look like grand affairs and the happiest day. It won't be wrong to say that being a bride is the biggest check on a girl's wishlist. While the journey of being a dulhan is super special, some get robbed of it due to God's bigger plan. But thanks to the changing world, modern Indian brides are not scared of flaunting their true selves on the biggest day.
Over the years, we have seen brides donning the prettiest designer ensembles to re-styling their mother's outfits. In November 2022, Apurva Agarwal, who is the founder of Amaaya Jewellery, was busy planning her grand winter wedding when her world crashed. She was diagnosed with blood cancer just a month prior to her wedding in India. While many will think that cancer is the end of the world, Apurva's new journey began, and her partner, Anirudh became her pillar of support in the tough times. Instead of running away, Anirudh stood by his fiancee during her treatment, and in May 2023, the duo got married.
Like every bride, Apurva also wanted to don a saree, adorn her hair with beautiful flowers and wear her heirloom jewellery. However, things took a turn, and she got married in a civil ceremony at her uncle's house in Chicago. The bride showed immense courage and flaunted her baldness. She looked super pretty in a red gown. She accessorised her look with diamond earrings.

Talking to Bride Today about her wedding day, Apurva shared that she was debating how she would present herself and weather to go for wigs or head wraps. She revealed that it wasn't easy and she didn't want to pretend to be fine. She was quoted as saying:
"I had lost all my hair by then, and was debating how I would present myself on my big day—head wraps, wigs, the works. As I tried on different wigs, I couldn’t shake off the gnawing feeling that I was pretending to be 'fine'. I didn’t look like me; I knew I wanted to show up just as I am, but I wasn’t sure if I was ready. I messaged my fiancé the night before, telling him that I didn't know what to do, and he said, “I'll be waiting at the altar...in whatever form you show up.” It was the boost of confidence I craved."
The bride, Apurva definitely gave courage to many cancer survivors by flaunting her baldness and taking a leap of faith and getting married. And kudos to her husband, Anirudh, who stood with her in the most difficult time. Apurva's treatment will go on for the next two years, but with the best partner, and we are sure she is going to get through and will be super fine.
