Captain Vikram Batra, a.k.a., Shershaah of India, had lost his life while rescuing one of his fellow soldiers at point 4875 during the Kargil War. His spirit to never surrender in front of the terrorists had got him the highest gallantry award, Param Vir Chakra for his incredible jazba in the Kargil war. Every year, on September 9, the whole nation comes together to pay their tribute to one of the most fearsome and courageous soldiers of all time, Captain Vikram Batra.
Kargil Hero, Vikram Batra’s life has been beautifully depicted in his autobiography, Shershaah. His character was played by Sidharth Malhotra, and his ladylove, Dimple Cheema’s character was played by Kiara Advani. The climax of the film left everyone teary-eyed and it was Vikram Batra’s statement that had proved his love for his nation. He had said, “Either I will come back after hoisting the Tricolour (Indian flag), or I will come back wrapped in it, but I will be back for sure."
The movie had made everyone familiar with the bravery of Captain Vikram Batra and his death scene is etched in everyone’s heart. In an interaction with The Quint, the late captain’s parents talked about their reaction to the death scene. His father, Girdhari Lal Batra shared, “A Pakistani soldier in hiding targets him and some three to four bullets hit him in the chest. He then falls down and bleeds from the mouth when he chants his unit's war cry 'Hail Mother Durga' (Durga mata ki jai). He then falls down and becomes a martyr.”
Vikram Batra’s father called it an emotional scene for them as he said, “It was a very emotional moment for us." Vikram Batra’s mother, Kamal Kanta Batra recalled how she got emotional seeing a bullet hit Sidharth in the film. She said, "I got very emotional when he was suddenly hit by a bullet in the film."
Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani have performed their characters to perfection. On August 4, 2021, Kiara had taken to her Instagram handle and had shared a video in which she and Sidharth could be seen reflecting on their preparation for their respective roles. Also, they had revealed how important it was to meet Vikram Batra's family and Dimple Cheema in person.
In the video, Kiara Advani had stated that the moment late Captain Vikram Batra's parents, G.L. Batra and Kamal Kanta Batra, had seen Sidharth Malhotra, they had admitted that he reminded them of their son. She had also added that Captain Batra's parents were keen for Sid to portray the role of their son. Going further in the video, Sidharth had also opened up about his visit to Captain Batra's home and had called it an overwhelming experience. Along with the video, Kiara had penned a small note which could be read as "From real to reel."
