Former Miss India and Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has shared a deeply emotional message following a recent Delhi High Court hearing regarding her brother, Major (Retd.). Vikrant Kumar Jaitly has been detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since September 2024. The case has drawn attention not only for its emotional dimension but also for the questions it raises about the legal protection and diplomatic support extended to Indian nationals abroad, particularly veterans.
Celina’s writ petition concerning her brother’s alleged detention was heard in open court by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sachin Datta. The Delhi High Court issued notice to the Government of India, directing it to file a status report on the matter and to appoint a nodal officer to coordinate assistance and facilitate communication between the family and the relevant authorities. Following the hearing, Celina took to social media to express her emotions, describing the court’s direction as a long-awaited ray of hope. In an Instagram post, she wrote:
“After an arduous 14 months, I have finally reached the light at the end of the dark tunnel. You fought for us, bhai — now it’s time for us to stand behind you.”
She further spoke about her brother’s commitment to the nation, calling him a fourth-generation soldier and emphasising the family’s deep military roots. Fans also supported her, filling the comment section with love. She added:
“He is a son, grandson, and great-grandson of war veterans who have dedicated their lives to India. My brother gave his youth to serve the nation, and now he needs his country to stand by him.”

According to reports, Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, a retired Indian Army officer, has allegedly been in detention in the UAE for over a year. The exact charges against him remain unclear, but his family has maintained that he has been held without proper communication or access to legal counsel. In light of the prolonged detention, a petition was filed before the Delhi High Court, seeking intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure consular assistance and facilitate contact between Major Jaitly and his family.

The petition filed in court argues that, as an Indian citizen, Major Jaitly is entitled to legal and consular support from the Indian government under both domestic and international law, including the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The petition filed before the Delhi High Court not only sought assistance to establish communication with Major Jaitly but also requested financial aid, medical support, and direct consular access. It urged the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure that his rights are upheld under international law, including the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963).

Celina Jaitly, crowned Femina Miss India 2001 and the fourth runner-up at Miss Universe 2001, made her Bollywood debut with Janasheen in 2003. She went on to appear in several successful films, including No Entry, Apna Sapna Money Money, and Golmaal Returns. In recent years, she has balanced her work in entertainment with advocacy and social causes.
