Chance The Rapper Opens Up About 'The Toughest Part' Of His Divorce From Ex-Wife, Kristen Corley

Chance the Rapper is all set to release his new album, Star Line, on August 15, 2025. The musician announced the release a while back and now, during a recent interaction, has opened up about his upcoming tour, And We Back, in support of the new record, starting in September 2025. However, it's not his musical work that has made him the title of every headline. The rapper sat for a conversation with the New Rory & Mal podcast, where he opened up about his divorce.

Chance the Rapper opens up about the toughest thing about being divorced from his estranged wife

During the New Rory & Mal podcast, Chance the Rapper opened up about his relationship with Kristen Corley. For the unversed, the couple split last year (2024) after five years of marriage. The rapper revealed that he has been in a 'transition' and is still growing. He added that they are just two people who 'definitely love each other'. Chance explained that everyone deals with their family differently, and he comes from an extremely tightly knit family, making it important for him, Kristen and their families to get along together.

He stated that despite being separated, they still travel together. However, it's a very different equation. Chance and Kristen first met when they were just 9 years old and got married in 2019. The duo shares two beautiful daughters, Kensli and Marlie, who are 9 and 5 years old, respectively. The duo was extremely in love, but five years into their marriage, they hit a harsh patch, from which they could not come back, leading to their 'amicable' divorce. During the podcast, Chance opened up about how difficult the divorce was for him and stated:

"I ain't gonna act like it’s not tough. I ain’t gonna act like it’s perfect and we shook hands and dipped. It’s weird. I think the toughness is that it’s a reality. I think that’s the toughest part. You might feel like you’re over it, and you’re not over it. Or you might be used to a certain pattern of operating, and because it doesn’t work like that, you have to allow yourself grace to deal with that and operate in reality."

Chance the Rapper revealed that it has been important to both him and Corley that they keep things cordial, especially considering that they still live near one another in Chicago and often cross paths. The rapper shared that they have to be kind to each other, not just for their kids but for the sake of their own sanity as well. He added:

"For the fact that we have respect for each other… We all still go to the same places. I see her at least every other week…I know people that they do not even recognize that their [baby mama] or [baby daddy] is alive. And that’s just not how we move."

In the same podcast, Chance the Rapper also acknowledged that their children will always keep him and Kristen Corley in each other's lives. He added that they will be connected through their kids for the rest of their lives. The rapper admitted that they might not be the most emotionally mature people, but they are grateful to have someone who will not allow them to lose their path. He was quoted as saying:

"It’s the rest of your life you will be connected, no matter what, emotionally, to this being. Y’all in a Venn diagram. Y’all both connected to the same thing… I’m not saying we're the most emotionally mature people, but we both, I think, at least have that vantage point that allows us to never go too far in any direction. And I’m grateful that I got somebody who is like that."
