Chef Vikas Khanna, who shares a loving bond with Shah Rukh Khan and his family, went all out to support his wife, Gauri Khan's restaurant, Torii, after an influencer claimed that they have been serving 'fake paneer' to the customers. The internet has become a scary place as information is being sold to the public with just a click away, and they are not conducting proper research or fact-checking.

Recently, Chef Vikas Khanna took his social media handle and shared an Instagram Story, calling out the influencer for spreading misinformation. Shunning the influencer's claim, Vikas Khanna explained how iodine changes colour in reaction under the presence of ingredients like potatoes, rice, bread, cornstarch, flour, and unripe bananas. He wrote:

"I’ve been cooking and working with the science of food for the past several decades. I’ve never seen such terrible misinformation like YouTuber who claims to be a food scientist. IODINE changes color with reaction under presence of ingredients: Potatoes, Rice, Bread, Cornstarch, Flour, Unripe bananas. The use of these ingredients (thus reaction) could also happen in cross-contamination. It’s scary that unqualified people are taken seriously."

When an influencer claimed Gauri Khan's restaurant was selling fake paneer

Famous influencer Sarthak Sachdeva left his two million followers in shock on YouTube after performing an iodine tincture test on a piece of paneer served at Gauri Khan's restaurant, Torii. The paneer changed its colour within no time, turning black and blue, which indicated the presence of starch. Reacting to it, Sarthak said:

"Shah Rukh Khan ke restaurant mein paneer nakli tha. Ye dekh ke mere toh hosh udd gaye the."

Also, let us inform you that Sarthak created a series, wherein he toured multiple celebrity-owned restaurants in Mumbai including, Virat Kohli's One8 Commune, Shilpa Shetty's Bastian, and Bobby Deol's Someplace Else, to assess the quality of paneer served. He conducted the same iodine test and found that none of the samples turned black which according to him indicated it was free from added starch.

Gauri Khan's restaurant Torii shared a public statement after the fake paneer claims went viral

The random test of paneer had a deep negative effect on the reputation of Gauri Khan's restaurant. Without wasting any time, Tori refuted the claims and stated that the iodine test simply reflects the presence of starch, not the authenticity of the paneer. The statement could be read as:

"The iodine test reflects the presence of starch, not the authenticity of the paneer. As the dish contains soy-based ingredients, this reaction is expected. We stand by the purity of our paneer and the integrity of our ingredients at Torii."
