A Hyderabad-based restaurant named after Telugu superstar, Chiranjeevi, found itself in massive legal trouble after it was sent a notice over its name. The restaurant named 'Chiranjeevi Dhaba' in Nallagandla, which opened earlier in 2025, received a legal notice for using the actor's name and image. The news left everyone curious about what really happened and whether the restaurant would have to shut down or change its name. Now, the restaurant's owner himself has addressed the speculation and shared his side of the story.
Now, the dhaba owner, Ravi Tej, has shared a clarification about what's happening. He took to the business's Instagram handle and shared a video message clarifying the situation. The video comes shortly after the Hyderabad Civil Court passed an order safeguarding the superstar's personality rights. Following reports of the legal notice, the restaurant's owner shared a video statement, confirming receipt of the notice and stating that his decision to name the restaurant after the actor was purely out of admiration.

Ravi Tej further explained that the notice was part of a broader legal action initiated after the Hyderabad Civil Court order, which extended to nearly 60 other establishments. He emphasised the respect he holds for the actor and shared:
"It’s understandable that he might not have been aware of it earlier, but we firmly believed that once he knew the truth, he would respond positively, and our belief proved absolutely right."

Ravi Tej claimed he had even spoken to Chiranjeevi's team, and that the matter was resolved. He shared that once they understood the restaurant's intent, they gave their consent to continue operating it under its current name. He also addressed speculation circulating online.

Ravi Tej shared that, while there were rumours of arrests over the use of Chiranjeevi's name or photo, there was nothing to be afraid of as long as the use did not harm the actor's image. He concluded the video, stating:

"Sir, from our hearts we promise you, we will never do anything that would bring disrepute to your name, we will never associate it with liquor bars or any unlawful or inappropriate activity. Thank you, Chiranjeevi garu, for understanding our intentions and giving us permission to continue our business as before."
In October 2025, Chiranjeevi approached the Hyderabad Civil Court seeking protection for his personality and publicity rights. The court granted the actor an ad-interim injunction preventing individuals or entities from using his name, image, voice, or likeness for commercial purposes without his consent. Chiranjeevi's plea came after concerns rose around the unauthorised use of his persona. Later that month, Chiranjeevi also lodged a police complaint against obscene AI-generated videos made in his likeness.

The court has observed that such misuse could lead to 'severe and irreparable harm' to Chiranjeevi's reputation and dignity, stressing the growing need to safeguard celebrity rights in the digital age. The injunction also restricts the use of his titles, including 'Mega Star', 'Chiru', and 'Annayya', across print, digital, and broadcast platforms. Additionally, the court has issued a warning that any violation involving imitation, defamation, or unauthorised commercial exploitation of the actor's identity would attract strict civil and criminal penalties.
