Chiranjeevi is one of Telugu film industry's most influential and successful actors. He comes from a family of stars and has achieved the tag of 'megastar' with his consistent box office hits. Apart from his films, fans have admired his image as a 'family man' with a progressive mindset who always supports his loved ones. But, despite the success, Chiranjeevi recently landed up in trouble after he mentioned he was scared that Ram Charan might have another girl as he wants a grandson to continue his legacy. His statement has gone viral, and netizens are slamming the actor for his sexist comments.
Chiranjeevi and his wife, Surekha, are parents to two daughters and a son, Ram Charan. At the same time, he has five granddaughters. Recently, while attending the Brahma Anandam pre-release event as the chief guest, the superstar revealed that his home feels like a ladies' hostel with so many girls, and he feels like a warden. In his words:
"When I'm at home, it doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I'm a ladies' hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around."
However, the megastar drew criticism when he mentioned that he wants his son, Ram Charan, to have a son who can continue their family legacy. At the same time, he mentioned that he's scared about his son having another daughter. For those unaware, Ram Charan and his wife, Upasana Konidela, welcomed a baby girl, Klin Kaara, in 2023. Chiranjeevi said:
"I keep wishing and telling (Ram) Charan, at least this time, to have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye... I'm scared that he might again have a girl."
After Chiranjeevi's statement went viral, it was widely discussed on social media, and fans were unhappy with the patriarchal thinking of the megastar. Expressing anger over the statement, one netizen questioned, "Won't your granddaughter continue your legacy?" Another comment called out the mindset behind the actor's statement and called it "Cheap thinking". One netizen highlighted their problem over the statement: "My issue here is with 'carry on with the legacy' that's objectionable."

Till so many girl child families have suffered by this. Don't take it easy. Take it as a serious matter and say sorry to the public. Girl child families and so many families are disturbed by his statement." A user called out the seriousness behind the issue and penned, "Sorry to mention, this mentality is the root cause of female infanticide. None can't deny."
Chiranjeevi debuted in 1978 and gained attention for playing antagonist and supporting roles. He later transitioned into playing protagonists and gained success with films like Khaidi, Pasivadi Pranam, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, Swayamkrushi and more.
