Choi Mina Sue's Friend Exposed 'Single's Inferno 5' For Portraying Her As 'Antagonist'? Find Out

Single's Inferno 5 has launched its first four episodes, and the Netflix show already has one female contestant grabbing all the attention. Emerging as the IT girl of the season, the 1999-born, Choi Mina Sue has already captivated most of the male contestants with her personality and natural charm. While praised by some, Choi Mina Sue's antics on the show have drawn in a lot of hate towards her as well. As the backlash heightened, her friend defended her, slamming the "online bullying" she had been facing.

Choi Mina Sue's friend defended her amid backlash

Choi Mina Sue's wavering heart and behaviour with fellow contestants drew significant criticism. The hate train grew so intense that fans started leaving malicious and brutal comments on her Instagram posts. Amid that, her friend and fellow beauty queen, Jasmin Selberg, commented on one of her posts to defend her and allegedly expose the show of portraying her in a negative light. Jasmin alleged that Choi Mina Sue's portrayal as a mean girl or Single's Inferno 5's "antagonist" was a result of the show's direction and editing rather than her true character. Jasmin wrote:

"I've known Mina for some years now. I see how her role in Single's Inferno might have a bad look on her as a person. It's a show meant for entertainment. As in any entertainment show, each person in the cast receives a role. From everybody's darling up until the antagonist, there's everything in between. Y'all are absolutely permitted to voice your opinions about her role in the show. But coming for her as a person is too much."

Jasmin Selberg alleged that every contestant in such reality shows is given a specific character to portray to make it interesting and draw viewers. According to her, Mina was a "fun, loving and caring friend", and the audience wasn't getting to see her real side in Shingle's Inferno 5. Jasmin asked people not to judge someone based on their on-screen portrayal and to think twice before "bullying" them online with hurtful words. Her exact words were:

"The Mina I know is a very fun, loving and caring friend. Our beloved Miss Earth. The role which was given to her from the directors and editors does not represent her as a person. Don't just shame people for the role they present on a show. It's not real, and most certainly not that deep. What is real is the hurt that is created through online bullying."

Why is Choi Mina Sue facing backlash?

Choi Mina Sue is facing significant backlash following the premiere of Single's Inferno Season 5. While initially a fan favourite, viewers have criticised her for several behaviours, leading many to label her the season's 'pick me girl'. Viewers have slammed her for frequently switching between multiple male contestants, such as Lim Su Bin, Lee Sung Hun, and Song Seung Il. The fans and panellists noted that she wavered every time a guy expressed interest in her and changed her ranking of the boys within minutes.

In the episode 5 promo, Choi Mina Sue was seen telling Lim Su Bin that she gets "annoyed" by indecisive people, even though she was the one who changed her mind the most about the contestants. Some viewers developed a dislike for her when she kept forgetting the contestants' names during the partner-choosing round of the photoshoot task. Some viewers found it disrespectful, given that by that time she had already conversed with most of them. They felt like Choi Mina Sue was deliberately putting on an act to seek attention.

Some netizens have accused her of not being a 'girls girl' and prioritising male attention over her friendships with other female contestants. Specifically, viewers were upset when she pursued Song Seung Il, despite Kim Min Ji stating that he was her only choice and she didn't want to explore anymore. Until episode 4, the panellists defended her, saying she was being honest about her feelings and that she showed interest in whoever approached her. However, the episode 5 promo showed the panellists getting annoyed by her, and Dex even said, "I can't empathise with her anymore."
