Masterji had breathed her last at the age of 72 in Mumbai. As per the reports, Saroj Khan had succumbed to cardiac arrest at 1:52 a.m. on July 3, 2020. She was admitted to the city's Guru Nanak Hospital on June 20, 2020, after complaining of breathing issues.
Once in an interview with Rediff.com, Saroj Khan had recalled a childhood incident that had changed her life completely. The ace choreographer had opened up about the same and stated that her mother, Noni Sadhu Singh, thought that she's a retarded child and had taken her to a doctor for a checkup during her younger days. Saroj Khan had said, "I come from an orthodox family, but I turned out to be a freak! I used to see my shadow and dance. My mother thought I was a retard and took me to a doctor who told her 'she just wants to dance, so let her dance.'"
Going further in her interview, Saroj Khan had revealed that after the checkup, the doctor had advised her mother to put her in the film industry because of her passion for dance. The iconic choreographer had said, "The doctor suggested that she put me in the film industry since my family needed money. I was the oldest of four sisters and one brother. I had to take care of everyone in the house."

At the end of her conversation, when Saroj Khan was asked about her father, Kishanchand Sadhu Singh and the kind of life he had lived after partition, the choreographer had recalled the traumatic time when her father had developed cancer. She had said, "I was born in 1948. My father was a rich, educated man in Pakistan so he did not have the habit of working. When they left Pakistan, they lost everything and became very poor. My father later developed cancer and could not work."
Last year in a conversation with Pinkvilla, Saroj Khan's youngest child, Sukyna Khan, had remembered her mother fondly and had titled her mom as her 'hero'. The emotional daughter had also talked about the massive influence her mother had on her life. She had said, "My mother was my hero. She was the greatest influence in my life. She was both a mother and father to me. She was very lenient but at the same time, wanted my etiquette to be perfect. She loved me being around her since I'm the youngest. My mum was my fighter. From the age of 13 to 71, she has done everything to fend for us and give us a full life. She has never complained and was the man of the house."
