34-year-old Bengaluru-based techie, Atul Subhash's suicide case has raised concerns about men's safety and the issues they have to face for their troubled marriages. For the unversed, he left a 24-page note wherein he stated how he failed to find a solution against the legal system that supported his wife, Nikita Singhania, who filed cases against him, which were reported to be false.
Nikita, despite being well-established, asked Rs. 3 crore alimony with Rs. 40K maintenance and Atul couldn't fulfil it, and when he let the district judge know, she also demanded lakhs as a bribe. This incident has casued an angry outburst, and amid this going on, another incident in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, grabbed the attention, which is about a call taxi driver and owner.
Recently, a call taxi driver and owner from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu made it to the headlines by doing an unexpected action to pay the alimony amount to his ex-wife. The 37-year-old individual was asked to pay Rs. 2 lakh by the court to his estranged wife in interim maintenance. Well, during the hearing, the man later arrived at Additional Family Court in Coimbatore with two bags full of Rs. 1 and Rs. 2 coins, amounting to a total of Rs. 80, 000 to pay as alimony to his estranged wife. Such an incident has grabbed a whole lot of attention amid the raised concerns around #MensLivesMatter and #MenToo.
In a video, which is now going viral, the man could be seen carrying two bags filled with coins to take them to the court to pay the alimony amount. As per the video, the wife filed for a divorce from him last year, and then the court has asked him to pay Rs. 2 lakh in interim maintenance. After he brought the coins to the court, the judge instructed the man to replace them with currency notes, by citing practicality issues. Reportedly, on December 19, 2024, the Coimbatore man replaced the coins with notes and paid the amount only by currency notes. After this, he was asked to pay the remaining amount of Rs. 1.2 lakhs to his estranged wife, as a part of maintenance settlement.

Atul Subhash, a Bangalore-based techie, died by taking the harsh step of committing suicide. The techie was already paying half of his salary to Nikita for maintenance. For the unversed, Nikita was employed with Accenture as an AI consultant and was earning Rs. 20-25 LPA, as per her ex-father-in-law. Well, she asked for Rs. 3 crore alimony, which Atul couldn't manage.

During the hearing, he let the judge know about his condition, when the judge stated that he certainly owned that much money, thus it was being claimed by Nikita. Not only that, Rs. 5 lakh was demanded as a bribe to settle the case. Atul, in his suicide note, has held Nikita responsible for his suicide and tagged her as 'explicit instigator'. Currently, Nikita is in judicial custody.
