Comedian, Vir Das recently had the most unpleasant experience on Air India flight AI816 from Mumbai to Delhi on April 14, 2025. He took on X (previously Twitter) to write a long post on how he and his wife booked Pranaam, which is a meet-and-greet service by the airlines which provides a wheelchair. The comedian wrote in his post about paying Rs. 50,000 for the same and shared how the cabin crew did not provide him with a wheelchair for his wife and also complained of the broken table, leg rests, and her seat stuck reclined.
Vir Das, who was frustrated, had taken to X in the wee hours of April 15, 2025, to take a sarcastic dig at Air India. He told the airlines to reclaim their wheelchair as he is a lifetime loyalist, and he believes the airlines have the nicest cabin crew in the sky. With pain in his heart, Vir wrote about how he and his wife were told that the flight was 'newly furbished'. A part of his tweet read:
"Two hours late, we get off in Delhi and we’re told it’s a stepladder. Again wheelchair and Encalm pre-booked. I ask the air hostesses at the front of the plane to assist my wife while I carry four bags. Silence and a clueless look at each other. We step off the plane to the top of the ladder. I ask an air India male ground staff member to help us, looks at me, shrugs, and Ignore’s me. My wife with a fracture makes it down the stepladder."
The ace comedian then wrote about how he told an Air India staff member at the bottom near the buses what happened. The staff member just said sorry, and then when Vir and his wife went to the terminal, Enclam people informed wheelchair staff that a wheelchair was pre-booked, but the staff was clueless.
Vir Das, going ahead in his post, spoke about how when he landed in Delhi, he saw wheelchairs everywhere. There was no staff as the flight was late so he had to grab a chair, wheel his wife to the baggage claim, and then out of the airport to the parking. He then shared:
"Encalm lets Air India know this is happening. No one shows. Anyway. One of your wheelchairs is on the second floor of the parking in Delhi. Do claim it. Cheers."
Air India released a statement on April 15, 2025, and acknowledged the complaint that Vir raised about the airline's delay in not giving a wheelchair to his wife, whose leg was broken. The statement read that the airline empathises with the guests, especially given the mobility concern involved, and recognises that this experience fell short of expectations. The statement also read:

"The operating cabin crew offered to assist the guest, including deplaning by using the 'ambulift' assigned to the aircraft as per SOP, but the delay—not denial—in providing wheelchair assistance was due to unusually high demand for wheelchairs and staff at that time."
