'Sakht Launda' a.k.a Zakir Khan is known to be India's best and most relatable stand-up comedian. He is known for his observational, funny, romantic and heartbreaking lines and is known to touch the hearts of the youth. His shayaris, couplets, have stories of breakup, middle-class upbringing, love, family and freedom. However, recently, he has been slammed as netizens revealed he insulted a female fan who told Zakir, 'I love you,' and he told her to tell it to the one who funded her tickets for the show.
Lately on Reddit, a discussion has been doing rounds on the reel of reel of a lady who has gone viral. In the same way, she, in her excitement, told Zakir, 'I love you' when she had gone to attend the concert. However, reportedly, he replied by saying, "Jiske paise pe aayi ho, usko bolo.” Now, netizens felt that the comment made by the comedian was all things patriarchal as well as misogynistic. The famous stand-up comedian has found himself in the middle of a controversy, following his alleged comment, despite being known for his charming and impactful performances.
The video reportedly had gone viral, but Zakir did not give an official statement related to the same. He has not yet apologised to the female fan, reportedly. Neither anyone from his team has spoken nor denied the incident.
One Redditor commented, "I used to think he was genuine, but now it just feels like he was being performative the whole time. He chose a narrative to follow and stuck to it. He was selling a story all this time. Nothing about him feels real. Always preachy. Even the moments of vulnerability seem practised now. Used to like him. Can't stand a minute of him now." Another user noted, "What a misogynistic comment, he assumed the girl wasn't earning and didn't pay for herself. Allegations of him being misogynistic were much louder pre covid. Post that he controlled it well."
One user who does not like Zakir commented, "I never liked him. People who try too hard to show they are genuine are usually the ones who are not. Plus, almost every video that I have seen of him has only 2,3 focus, all his stand-ups or even interviews sound so scripted. I don't know why people even like him." One user called him an uncle and wrote, "He is an uncle doing uncle comedy. That's what happens with most comedians: they refuse to grow up and catch up with the times. His audience is, anyway, shrinking day by day."

Zakir sat down once for an interview with Telegraph India and shared of coming from a middle-class family who never said no to work. He has been grateful for what has been offered to him. When asked about the secret behind his comedy being relatable, he shared that he reads books but not ardently. He likes to watch content, meet people, and talk to them, which gives him a context for life. Zakir shared:
"The secret sauce is, I interact with a lot of people. I meet 30 to 40 people a month. I am very chatty and I talk to a lot of people."
