Rajinikanth Breaks Records, 'Coolie' Becomes Biggest Opening Film Of His Career, Earns Rs. 170 Crore

His latest film, Coolie, which is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has set new records in Indian cinema. With an amazing earning, the film, Coolie has turned out to be the biggest opening film of Rajnikanth's career. 

Rajinikanth’s latest film earns Rs. 170 crore on day 1

Rajinikanth has marked a historic moment in his career with Lokesh Kanagaraj film, Coolie. The film was released on August 14, 2025, and on day 1, it managed to earn a massive amount of Rs. 65 crore in India and worldwide, the film earned around Rs. 170 crores, as reported by Sacnilk. Reportedly, Rajinikanth's highest opening film before Coolie was 2.0, which has earned Rs. 94 crores worldwide, and Coolie crossed that number within a few hours.

Coolie surpassed War 2 at the box office

For a few days, fans were waiting to see Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 clash with each other on August 14, 2025. Before the release, there were debates about which film would dominate the screens and now, a winner seems to be clear. While Coolie shut down all the debates by earning Rs. 170 crores worldwide, War 2 also performed pretty well and earned around Rs. 95 crores worldwide on day 1.

In the film, Rajinikanth plays the role of 'Deva', which is the main highlight. A lot of critics and fans have shared their thoughts on social media, appreciating Rajinikanth's performance. Rajinikanth aka Shivaji Rao Gaekwad was born on December 12, 1950, in Bangalore and is one of the most loved and celebrated actors in Indian cinema. Before acting, he used to work as a bus conductor, but later, he went on to pursue his passion. He made his acting debut with the film, Apoorva Raagangal. Initially, he started with small and often negative roles, but his unique charm and amazing dialogue delivery made him stand out.

Over the years, he went on to do hit films like, Mullum Malarum, Padayappa, Kabali, Jailer, Robot and more. Rajinikanth has received several honorable awards including Padma Bhushan in 2000, and Padma Vibhushan in 2016. Today, he is the highest paid actor in the film industry and millions of his fans call him 'Thalaivar'.
