The iconic actor, Raj Kapoor's son, Rajiv Kapoor's acting career is often regarded as a learning lesson for many celebrity kids. Rajiv, who had so much potential in him, was reportedly crushed under the pressure of his father and uncles' incredible legacy and stardom. With so many expectations and comparisons of Rajiv with his brothers, Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, the industry and the audiences never tried to enjoy his uniqueness. However, just when we thought that the world would finally witness Raj Kapoor's youngest son, Rajiv's acting genius, he left for the heavenly adobe.
Although the professional front of Rajiv Kapoor's life was quite tragic, but also a learning for many aspiring actors across the globe. However, on the personal front, Rajiv was married to an architect, Aarti Sabharwal, but the two got divorced two years later.

During the promotion of the movie, Toolsidas Junior, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, the film's antagonist, Dalip Tahil had opened up about his co-star, the late Rajiv Kapoor. The veteran actor and the son of India's greatest showman, Raj Kapoor had worked in the movie after almost 30 years. Despite such a massive gap in the acting line, he still did a great job and his character in the movie was lauded by almost everyone. However, sadly the film turned out to be his last film, and even before its release in theatres, he had passed away. Recalling the same, Dalip had shared how Rajiv had wanted to resurrect his career with that film and how happy he was working again in front of the camera. Dalip had said:
"He (Rajiv) was very excited, and doing a great job after the first few days of nervousness. He was so keen to resurrect his career with Toolsidas Junior but, it is very sad that won't happen."
Going further in the interview, Dalip Tahil had explained how Rajiv Kapoor, son of Raj Kapoor is the prime example that even celebrity kids need to work hard in order to make their mark in the industry. The actor hailed Rajiv Kapoor's efforts to make his place in the industry and shared how despite giving a hit like Ram Teri Ganga Maili Ho Gayi, Rajiv Kapoor had never reached the heights he was destined for. Sharing his views on the topic of nepotism in Bollywood with Raj Kapoor's son, Rajiv at its centre, Dalip had explained:
"He had so many doubts. He told me 'I have not faced camera for 30 years' and I thought 'what is all this talk about nepotism and aap kiske bacche hain (whose kid are you)? Here was Raj Kapoor's son, Raj Kapoor the legend and he has not faced the camera for 30 years'. He last worked in Ram Teri Ganga Maili Ho Gayi, which was such a successful film."

For the unversed, Rajiv Kapoor was often compared by people and even his close friends and family members to his uncle and iconic actor, Shammi Kapoor, for his striking resemblance to him. As per the reports, many people told Rajiv to follow in the footsteps of his uncle, Shammi Kapoor, instead of carving out an identity for himself in the film industry. Although the actor had never accepted the idea of trying to replicate his uncle on the screen, but it had become quite hard for him to get out of the constant debate of him being compared to his uncle. On top of that, as per multiple reports, it was Shammi Kapoor's unparalleled legacy that turned out to be another big hurdle in Rajiv Kapoor's career.
The 58-year-old actor suffered a major heart attack on February 9, 2021, and was rushed to the Inlaks Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
