David Justice's Reason For Divorce From First Wife Halle Berry, Claimed, 'She Didn't Cook, Clean...'

David Justice is an American athlete and former Baseball player. He has a net worth of USD 40 million. He is famous for his hard work and amazing work-life balance. However, it is his personal life that often becomes the talk of the town. After many years, Justice, who was once married to Halle Berry, talked about the reason of their divorce. 

David Justice shares the reason for his divorce from Halle Berry 

Halle and David first met each other in 1992, and got married within five months of knowing each other. But their wedding ended in 1993. While David Justice is happily married to Rebecca Justice, he recently discussed his divorce from Halle and what went wrong in their relationship. Recently, in an appearance on Matt Barnes' podcast, All The Smoke, the former MLB player revealed the issues he and Berry had in their marriage, which ended in 1997 with a divorce. 

David revealed that he was in a honeymoon state with Berry for five months after their wedding, and soon he thought of having children with the actress. But he was hit by a harsh reality. He claimed that back in those days, he thought that a wife should cook, clean and be traditional. He was quoted as saying:

"My knowledge and my understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn't vast. So, I'm looking at my mom — and I'm a Midwest guy. So, in my mind, I'm thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, [be] traditional, you know?" 

Elaborating on what led to his divorce, David questioned whether he wanted to have kids with Halle Berry. He revealed that during those days, she wouldn't cook, clean, or show any maternal instincts. Talking about it, David said:

"Then I'm thinking, 'OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?' At that time, as a young guy — she don't cook, don't clean, don't really seem like motherly, and then we start having issues."

David Justice revealed it was Halle's wish to marry him which made him say 'yes' to the wedding 

David Justice shared the early days of their relationship, revealing that they met in May 1992. However, within five months of knowing each other, David Justice said that Halle asked him to marry her, and he wasn't able to deny it. The former baseball player revealed that he didn't want to make her feel bad by denying the proposal. 

David revealed that soon differences started cropping in, as Halle would spend most of her time shooting movies in different countries. He admitted that their relationship could have been saved if they had known about therapy and counselling. David claimed that they didn't have many major issues, it was just that he was young and had only been in one real relationship before marrying Halle. 

When Halle talked about not being able to keep a relationship going

Earlier, in February 2025, Halle Berry appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show. She shared that people often comment that something is wrong with her, as she can't keep a man. However, she addressed the claims and stated that she does not want to keep a wrong man. She was quoted as saying:

"I’ve heard people say, 'Something must be wrong with Halle Berry, she can’t keep a man.' Who's to say I want to keep a man? I don’t want to keep the wrong man. Like, I’m not crazy, right? So when you find that you make a mistake — we all make mistakes. We have a right to say, ‘Oh God, this was a mistake. Let me start again.’ We have the right to do that."
