When Dax Shepard broke up with Kristen Bell to date other people early in their relationship

The start of Kristen and Dax's relationship has been as tumultuous as their marriage has been over the years. In an interview with PopSugar, Kristen opened up about the early days of their relationship. She revealed that, three months into dating, Dax broke up with her, stating that he was already dating other people. However, he later called Kristen, and they got back together after Dax said the other person was not as 'interesting' as her. The actress was quoted as saying:

"He sat me down and said, ‘I can’t have this right now. I think you’re wonderful, but I am still dating other people.’ And then I, like, liquefied and fell to the ground, but I felt incredibly respected that he had the balls to tell me we weren’t in the same place...He called me and he was like, ‘I don’t know what I was thinking. I was dating someone else but they’re just not as interesting as you, and I don’t know what I’m doing,’ and he came back.”

In many interviews, they have opened up about frequently going for marriage counselling. A source close to the couple spoke to The Daily Mail and revealed that their marriage is, in fact, quite 'volatile'. They end up fighting over very minute things. In the Life is Short podcast, Kristen also opened up about a 'screaming' fight with Dax over folding towels. The insider source shared:

"Kristen and Dax are both pretty volatile people and can blow up over the smallest issues. Sometimes Kristen or Dax will say something they think is funny and the other one gets offended."

However, the report also suggested that despite their intense fights, Kristen and Dax try their best to shield their daughters from it. In an interview with US Weekly, Kristen also said they are complete opposites and revealed that it had taken a lot of effort on both their parts to coexist. She shared:

“We don’t believe in The One. We don’t believe in the fairytale. We don’t believe that you can meet someone and you have a perfectly matching personalities. We are opposites and it has taken a tremendous amount of work and therapy for us to coexist.”

In an Instagram Live interview with Katie Couric, the couple looked frazzled and said they had fought just a few minutes earlier. While sitting together for the interview, Kristen revealed that it had been the closest they had been physically in the last few days. Dax also left the interview after saying, "America’s sweetheart has some character defects". Later, Kristen also shared that the first weeks of the pandemic had been 'brutal'.

To mark 12 years of their marriage, Kristen Bell shared a sweet photo of her and Dax. The couple was seen tightly hugging each other. However, the snap that looked full of warmth at first glance has become a major subject of controversy. And the reason is the caption that Kristen wrote. The actress penned down:

“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: 'I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would'."

People have found the joke tone-deaf and insensitive, given that October is the domestic violence awareness month. Many have not taken lightly to Dax joking about killing his wife, and Kristen supposedly normalising it. The popular crime reality show, Dateline, also commented on the post with one word, "Screenshotted."
