In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, R Madhavan opened up about his idea of romance and happy married life as he sheds some light on his 22-year-old marriage with Sarita Birje. The ever-so-charismatic actor stated that the love between two partners never really changes; what really changes is how they express it to each other after marriage. Also, addressing the romance quotient in marriages, R Madhavan added that if your partner still loves or cares for you even after so many years of your marriage, it is what pure romance is all about. He explained:
"Love never changes, love is the same, the way you express it and the way you, expect or what out of it is actually a series of compromises correct and if you ask me my definition of marriage is when, you've totally become somebody else, after your marriage after getting into, the relation for 20 years the other, person still loves you enough or still cares for you enough to maintain care for you that I think is romance though."
Going further in the interview, R Madhavan also talked about the importance of companionship in one's life and explained how growing old could become quite tragic if you don't have a companion with you, who can add value to your life. Explaining the need for companionship as we grow older, R Madhavan said:
"Every moment in your life now is so beautiful but it only has any sense if it is shared with somebody, you know as you grow older we're all going to turn old and our lives will also have a different meaning. If the companionship is not there, the recall value of what you have done to yourself is not there."

In an interview with Mashable India, R Madhavan had opened up on one of the hilarious incidents of his life. The actor had shared that the Bandstand holds a special place in his heart and life. He had recalled that when he was dating his wife, Sarita, they didn't have many places to spend quality time instead of Bandstand. Recalling a tale from their 'coochie-cooing' moments behind the rocks, he had revealed:
"When I was wooing Sarita, we seldom had a place to get intimate. So, these rocks have many stories to tell. We started out like any other couple in Mumbai, on top of the double-decker buses, coochie-cooing by the rocks, having a policeman say 'go home' and all that. We have really fond memories of this place."
