Deepika Padukone's father, Prakash Padukone and her mother, Ujjala Padukone are cousins

The actress is currently in the headlines and surprisingly not for her films or married life with Ranveer Singh but instead because of her parents, Prakash Padukone and Ujjala Padukone. Some time ago, in an interview with a media portal, Prakash Padukone, who is a former badminton player, opened up about his personal life and talked about his marriage with his wife, Ujjala Padukone. However, while he was talking about his marriage, Prakash revealed that he and Ujjala are second cousins. The iconic player, who was ranked World No.1 in 1980, was madly in love with Ujjala. He said:

"I got married to my second cousin Ujjala soon after and we moved to Copenhagen as I found a job there and lived there till 1986 when Deepika was born. I retired in 1989."

As soon as the interview made its way on the internet, a series of netizens took to their social media handles and started bashing the veteran couple. Some users even compared them to the famous television series, Game Of Thrones' fictional characters, Targaryens, who is famous for marrying their own siblings in order to keep their bloodline as pure as possible. Another user took a dig at Deepika’s parents and dropped a nasty comment and it can be read as:

"I don’t understand how this makes it any better. First cousin is still first cousin, or is there some science that I’m missing."

"Its common in south india. On my side of things, we usually marry people of the same caste. Which basically means that in a way we marry our extended family as castes in south India are relatively very small in size."
