[Exclusive] Who Is Lou Holtz Jr? Denise Richards-Aaron Phypers Case Has A Charlie Sheen Connection

The ongoing divorce battle between veteran Hollywood actress Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers, her husband of six years, is taking uglier turns, with new legal fallouts emerging by the day. Amid restraining orders and Phypers’ recent arrest for 'spousal abuse', the Real Housewives star’s ‘star power’ has become a centre of controversy, with many believing Richards may be ‘exploiting’ her Hollywood fame to get ahead in the case.

While legal experts describe Phypers’ sudden arrest as an unprecedented move that could seriously compromise or even bias the ongoing civil divorce proceedings, a new twist is sending ripples through Hollywood’s celebrity circles. 

A familiar name resurfaces in Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers’ legal drama

According to insider accounts, the Wild Things actress may have found herself entangled in the same network that fuelled her past conflicts, this time involving Aaron Phypers, her ex-husband Charlie Sheen, and Los Angeles District Attorney Lou Holtz Jr. 

An insider told BollywoodShaadis that Marc Gurvitz of Brillsteen & Gray (now Brillstein Entertainment Partners) allegedly reached out to Denise Richards when she began pursuing domestic violence claims against her estranged husband, Phypers. For some context, this is the same management firm that previously presented Richards before a 2006 fallout linked to Heather Locklear. 

Gurvitz was reportedly forced to part ways with Denise nearly two decades ago due to a conflict of interest involving Locklear, but is now said to have ‘offered his friendship’ to Lou Holtz Jr. at the DA’s office. The insider told us:

“Marc Gurvitz called Denise when he found out she was pursuing domestic violence against her former husband, Aaron Phypers. Gurvitz offered his friendship to Lou Holtz Jr. at the DA office if she needed it.”

The DA’s alleged involvement in Denise Richards’ case

Sources also claim that Holtz Jr. subsequently contacted Detective June Y. Lee at the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. To note, this is the same detective who allegedly took Aaron’s original police report on July 20, 2025, filed just days after he filed divorce proceedings. That report, insiders say, detailed the Phypers’ allegations against Richards, of assault, vandalism, and theft.

Insiders claim Detective Lee allegedly promised the Dirty Hands actor a copy of the report within 15 days. However, when Phypers followed up 20 days later, he was reportedly denied it, as the department had now begun an investigation into him. The source shared:

“Detective Lee promised Phypers a copy in 15 days. When Phypers called 20 days later, Lee told Phypers he would not be getting a copy of his police report since they were now investigating him!”

Since then, Phypers has not received updates from investigators about Richards’ claims, most of which have been “neutralized in the civil case,” per insider documentation.

The timing of it all raises eyebrows in the Richards-Phypers case

What’s raising eyebrows in the case is the timing. The criminal charges against Aaron Phypers were reportedly filed mid-trial, just as the hearing was progressing in his favour. Sources say the charges were “identical” to the issues already raised and addressed in the civil hearing. Legal observers familiar with the situation have called the move “truly unheard of”. Defense attorney Peter Gleason told the Enquirer:

“It seems like these criminal allegations are designed as leverage to benefit in the divorce proceeding. L.A. law enforcement is there to protect the [Hollywood] industry first, and Denise just happens to be a bigger star than Aaron.”

Experts say such a move could unfairly tilt the balance in an ongoing civil proceeding that had consistently ‘debunked’ Richards’ material allegations. With little public evidence to substantiate the latest claims and whispers of possible Hollywood influence through long-standing partnerships, the situation has sparked debate about fairness and conflict of interest within legal circles.

What’s the Charlie Sheen connection?

Richards, formerly Mrs Charlie Sheen, has previously faced scrutiny over her alleged legal tactics. Her prior divorce and custody battles with the Two and a Half Men star also involved accusations, counterclaims, and public disputes over finances and parental conduct. Back then, Sheen had accused the actress of fabricating claims for legal advantage, telling The Blast in 2019:

“D and her legal posse traffic only in fiction. My day in court is painfully overdue. She is behaving like a coward, and the truth will prevail."

The case eventually ended with the ruling that Sheen would have to pay “zero dollars per month” to Richards in Child support for their daughters, Sami and Lola Sheen, and it had reportedly left her “blindsided”. Now, observers cannot help but draw parallels between Denise’s long history of contentious battles and her current fallout with Aaron Phypers. 

Both Sheen and Phypers have publicly denied Richards’ allegations, each suggesting that her filings exhibit patterns of manipulation or exaggeration. Phypers himself stated:

“One cannot and must not try to erase the past with lies merely because it does not fit the present.”
