Dhanush’s new Tamil film Idli Kadai has finally arrived on Netflix. The family drama, written, directed, and acted by Dhanush himself, is an emotional story about love, family, and finding one’s roots. After doing well in theatres, it is now streaming online for audiences everywhere.
Idli Kadai was released in theatres on October 1, 2025, and received great reviews from both critics and fans. The movie is now available to stream on Netflix from October 29, 2025. Idli Kadai can be watched in Tamil and in dubbed versions of Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.

The story of the film follows ‘Murugan’, played by Dhanush, a young man from a small town whose biggest dream is to rise beyond his humble beginnings and the family’s small Idli Kadai (idli shop) run by his father, ‘Sivanesan.’ To make his life better, he leaves his family behind to chase success in the bustling city of Madurai. He spends several years there, building his career and distancing himself from his past, until a tragedy changes everything. 'Murugan’s father's tragic death forced him to come back to his home. His visit coincides with the preparations for his marriage to 'Meera,' the daughter of the rich businessman 'Vishnu Varadhan,' who resides in Bangkok.

'Murugan' found himself emotionally detached, and his new role is far from easy as he took over his father’s family business of Idli Kadai. After years away from small-town life, he struggles to maintain the little store while coping with financial troubles, communal expectations, and the grief of his father's death. 'Murugan' gradually begins to draw on his city experience to modernise and restore the shop's appeal, while remaining loyal to its traditions. ‘Ashwin’, ‘Meera’s' brother, makes things difficult for ‘Murugan’ by constantly interfering, creating tension between ‘Murugan' and ‘Meera'. ‘Ashwin’ looks down on ‘Murugan’s' decision to manage a small food stall and questions his worth as a husband.
