If the reports are to be believed, the NY Times's spots platform, where Dianna Russini serves as an NFL journalist and insider, launched an internal review of her account of events to determine whether it can be substantiated. Dianna Russini has reportedly been removed from her reporting duties, and her interactions and coverage are being evaluated.

Russini said that it often happens that the NFL journalists interact with the source outside of the venues or stadiums. On the other hand, the executive editor of The Athletic, Steven Ginsberg, also defended Russini in public, stating that the photos were misleading and lacked essential context. Steven Ginsberg mentioned that the interaction between Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel shown in the photos happened in front of many people.

Speaking more about the same, Steven Ginsberg mentioned that Dianna is a premier journalist and The Athletic is proud to have her. While there have been questions about her losing her job, it was Jon Weiner, better known as 'Stugotz', who said that if The Athletic got rid of Russini, then she would still be sitting by him, doing the show. He said:

"I’ll tell you this on the front end of any Dianna Russini discussion I’m going to have. If The Athletic gets rid of her, she’ll be sitting right next to me and Izzy doing the show. It so happened that Mike Vrebal signed a USD 50 million deal with the Tennessee Titans in 2018, and in 2023, he was fired, which led her to face troubles.

It was in 2025 that he signed a deal with the New England Patriots. Well, Dianna, in a post from January 2026, said that it's fair to point out that the Titans were looking for Mike Vrabel-type qualities in this hire, but suggesting that Robert Saleh is Vrabel is something outrageous.
