Dick Van Dyke, 99-Year-Old Is Married To 48-Year-Younger Wife, Calls Her Secret Behind His Long Life

Dick Van Dyke is a famous American actor, comedian and singer. He is known for his diverse roles in films such as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Dick Van Dyke Show. The actor is soon approaching his 100th birthday, and fans wonder what the secret is to his longevity. Recently, Dick Van Dyke published his new book, 100 Rules for Living to 100. 

Dick Van Dyke has been married to 48-year-younger wife

The 99-year-old actor opened up about his life and the secret to his longevity. He credited it to his wife, who is half his age. No, literally, the actor is married to 54-year-old Arlene Silever. The two got married in 2012, and they have an age gap of 45 years, which is huge. In his book, 100 Rules for Living to 100, Dick stated that she is half his age, and she makes him feel two-thirds of his age. He also added that every day she finds a new way to keep him up and moving. He wrote:

"Arlene is half my age, and she makes me feel somewhere between two-thirds and three-quarters my age, which is still saying a lot. Every day she finds a new way to keep me up and moving, bright and hopeful and needed."

How did Dick Van Dyke fall in love with woman almost half his age?

For those who don't know, Arlene and Dick met during the SAG Awards in 2006. She was working as a makeup artist. Van Dyke revealed that she quickly became his soulmate and love. He added that it was their romance that kept him forever young, and he didn't wither with age.

Van Dyke added that he felt drawn to Arlene during his first meeting. It was the first time he approached an unknown woman. Dick admitted that he was the first to initiate the conversation as he sent her an email and expressed how smitten he was with her. An excerpt from his email can be read as:

"Arlene, I’m afraid I was so smitten with you last night I couldn’t think of anything to say. Still, when the project at Hallmark starts, I’d like to give you a chance to talk with them. Would that be OK?"

Soon, Arlene started working as his makeup artist. After two years, he lost his ex-wife, Margie Willette and his partner, Michelle Triola. This led to his growing relationship with Arlene Silver, and soon they fell in love.

Dick Van Dyke is 99 years old and turning 100 soon on December 13, 2025. On the other hand, his wife, Arlene, is 54 years old, and they have 48 48-year age gap. The actor told her that he never thought about it. He just knew that she would keep him 'forever young'. 

However, Arlene had issues with the age gap, but after one year, she realised that age was just a number in their relationship. According to Arlene, she realised that when she focused on their life, she realised she had been happiest with him. She stated that when you love someone, age becomes just a number. She said:

"When I focused on what our life was, right then, I realized: this is the happiest I have ever been, hands down. When you love somebody the way we love each other, age is just the last thing that matters."
