Everyone is aware of the evergreen love story of late Dilip Kumar and his wife, Saira Banu that is still giving some major couple goals to all the lovebirds out there. Despite the age gap of 22 years between Dilip saab and Saira, the couple had fallen madly in love with each other and got married on October 11, 1966.
However, not many people are aware that it was legendary actress, Kamini Kaushal, who was the first lady, the first flame, and the first person, whom Dilip Kumar had loved, and she was his first true love. But it was their break-up that had made Dilip saab the 'Tragedy King' of Indian cinema.

The Indian film industry is one of the most blessed cinematic industries in the world. While on one side, Dilip Kumar's professional life had seen the greatest achievements, his personal life had suffered a lot of hiccups in his journey to find eternal love. Over the decades, we have witnessed some exceptionally great actors in the history of Indian cinema. But among all the legends we have witnessed, a man, who had changed the whole dynamics of the screenplay, rules of acting, projection of expressions, and had influenced countless people by breaking enormous borders in his illustrious career spanning five decades was none other than Dilip Kumar.
'The First Khan' and 'The Tragedy King', late Mohammed Yusuf Khan a.k.a, Dilip Kumar was the man, who had introduced method acting in Indian cinema. The legendary and super-humble actor, Dilip saab holds the Guinness World Record for winning the maximum number of awards by an Indian actor, and it tells everything about his untouchable legacy.
According to Anshula Bajpai and Trinetra Bajpai's book, Dilip Kumar: Peerless Icon Inspiring Generations, it has been reported that Kamini was Dilip saab's first love, and the two stars had done three films together, Shaheed, Shabnam, and Nadiya Ke Paar. Although Dilip had never accepted his love for Kamini openly, it was the popular novelist, Ismat Chughtai, who had stated that Dilip saab had loved Kamini with his whole heart.

Ismat Chughtai had also stated that it was their break-up that had affected the veteran actor severely. It was director, PN Arora, who had disclosed the news that it was Kamini's brother, who had arrived on the set with his gun and warned his sister that he'd kill her if she continues her affair with Dilip Kumar. The director had also added that Kamini's brother was in the military and had also threatened to kill Dilip saab.

The biggest reason Kamini Kaushal's brother was full of rage against his sister was that she was a married woman, and it was an extra-marital affair. However, there was another twist in the tale as not many people are aware that Kamini's elder sister had died in a road accident.
After which, her family had pleaded and had advised her to marry her late sister's husband. In the beginning, the actress had refuted the idea, but with time, for the sake of her family and her sister's child, she had agreed to marry her own jija.

Once, in an interview with a leading magazine, Kamini Kaushal had revealed that when her husband, BS Sood, had heard about her affair with Dilip Kumar, he wasn't angry with her, as he knew that Kamini was in pure love with Dilip saab. According to various reports and books, it is believed that Kamini and Dilip saab were finding it hard to end their relationship and that had made her brother furious, after which he had shot himself.
The shocking incident had terrified the two lovers and reportedly the reason why they had ended their relationship. After which, Dilip saab had become the tragedy king, and Kamini had lived her life with her husband and had never looked back.

Veteran actor, Dilip Kumar breathed his last on July 7, 2021, at Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital. At the age of 98, the actor passed away due to prolonged illness. Dilip Kumar’s family friend, Faisal Farooqui confirmed the news through a tweet on the actor's Twitter handle. The tweet can be read as:
"With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. – Faisal Farooqui."
