Born in Peshawar, British India, to Ayesha Begum and Lala Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Mohammed Yusuf Khan, professionally known as Dilip Kumar, had changed his name decades ago, when actress Devika Rani insisted him to do so. He made his debut in the Hindi film industry with Jwar Bhata in 1944 and 1949, he created his niche in Bollywood with his breakthrough movie, Andaz, becoming the 'Tragedy King' over the years.
Dilip sahab was the dream man of every woman in the '60s. His charming personality had captivated the hearts of millions. And among his million fans was Saira Banu, who was head-over-heels in love with him from the age of 12. Saira Banu was 22 when she had gotten married to a 44-year-old Dilip Kumar. With an age gap of 22 years, the duo had gotten married on October 11, 1966.

A few days back, Dilip Kumar was admitted to Hinduja Hospital after he had complained of breathlessness. He was under observation in the ICU as it was the second time he got admitted to the hospital within a month, but his condition was said to be normal. However, a few moments back, the veteran actor breathed his last at Hinduja Hospital. Dr Jalil Parkar confirmed the same.
Dilip Kumar’s family friend, Faisal Farooqui too announced the demise of Dilip saab. He tweeted, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. – Faisal Farooqui.”

On July 6, 2021, Dilip Kumar's wife and actress, Saira Banu had taken to his Twitter handle and had shared an important update on the veteran actor's health. Her tweet could be read as "We are grateful for God's infinite mercy on Dilip Shaib that his health is improving. We are still in hospital and request your prayers and duas so that Insha'Allah he is healthy and discharged soon. Saira Banu Khan"

For the unversed, it was on June 29, 2021, when Dilip Kumar was admitted to Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital in the morning due to breathlessness. The actor was under observation in the ICU as it is the second time that he had gotten admitted to the hospital within a month. Indianexpress.com had quoted a hospital source saying, "Dilip Kumar was brought to the hospital yesterday. He had the same complaints that he had last time."
