Born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan in 1922, he had changed his name to Dilip Kumar when actress, Devika Rani had insisted. Making his debut in the Hindi film industry with Jwar Bhata, Dilip Kumar had made his niche with the movie, Andaz in 1949. He was the institution of acting, who had inspired millions to become an actor. After a glorious life of 98 years, Dilip Kumar breathed his last on July 7, 2021, leaving everyone teary-eyed.
Dilip Kumar was admitted to the Hinduja Hospital on June 30, 2021, due to breathlessness, and while there were reports of his discharge, the news of his death shocked everyone. Dilip Kumar’s friend, Faisal Farooqui confirmed the news of Dilip saab’s death. He tweeted, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. – Faisal Farooqui.”

Since then, the nation is under shock and everyone is mourning. Kareena Kapoor Khan took to her IG stories and shared an unseen picture of Dilip Kumar with her dada ji, Raj Kapoor. In the picture, the two veterans happily posed for the camera, with their arms around each other. Kareena wrote, “RIP” with two heart and a folded hand emoticon atop it. Neetu Kapoor also shared a goofy picture of her sasur ji, Raj Kapoor with Dilip Kumar, where Dev Anand can be seen photobombing them on her IG handle. She wrote, "The deep connection and love between them." For the unversed, Raj Kapoor had passed away in 1988.
As soon as the news of Dilip Kumar’s death surfaced online, many celebrities poured their heartfelt eulogies for the late veteran actor. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi poured his condolences and tweeted, “Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP.”

Amitabh Bachchan also penned his message for his idol, Dilip Kumar, on his IG handle. He shared a picture with Dilip Kumar from one of their photoshoots and wrote, “My idol Dilip Saheb .. lost .. never before never after .. “an epic era has drawn curtains .. never to happen again” Peace and duas..” Ajay Devgn, Madhuri Dixit, Varun Dhawan and many other celebrities poured their heart out, paying their last tribute to the veteran actor, late Dilip Kumar.
Riteish Deshmukh shared a series of memories with Dilip saab on his IG handle and one picture was of the veteran actor with his father, late Vilasrao Deshmukh. He wrote, “Every actor that faces the camera today will thank Dilip Sahab for the being their teacher. Truly an institution. Am completely heartbroken today, will miss his pat on my back, his smile with a twinkle in the eye and fond kisses on my forehead. Dilip Sahab- you will always be the king amongst kings. Greatest of all times. You were a hero to every generation. Rest in glory Sir. My deepest condolences to Saira ji, the entire family, loved ones and millions of fans across the globe.”
Karan Johar penned on the lines how Dilip Kumar’s journey can never end as he leaves behind a legacy. He wrote on his IG handle, “DILIP KUMAR SAAB set the standard for all solid actors to follow… he was a bonafide institution….. his performances are text books of nuance and celluloid screen presence…. He leaves behind a legendary legacy that will continue to inspire generations of artists …. His journey can never end because his legacy will always live on… Rest in peace Dilip Saab and thank you for being the force that you were…. That force is unmatchable and irreplaceable but forever inspirational…. Prayers to Saira aunty and the entire family…. The entire fraternity mourns the passing away of a LEGEND…”We hope Dilip Kumar is in a better place, wherever he is now!"
