Diljit Dosanjh and the entire team of his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3, have found themselves in hot water after the film's trailer was launched. From the trailer, people got to know that Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir, has been retained in the film despite the India-Pak tensions due to the attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. With this controversy, the film's entire team has been facing backlash. However, most of this anger is especially directed towards Diljit Dosanjh. Amidst this controversy, let's revisit the time when the singer stated that India was the best country and how netizens reacted to it. 

Diljit Dosanjh had praised India in many aspects 

Diljit Dosanjh, in an older podcast with Raj Shamani, discussed India. The actor-singer had stated that he had been to most of the countries around the world barring few. However, there was no country like India anywhere else. Diljit said that from the environment to food, different places, and even weather, everything about India is the best. The Phillauri actor stated that many people might say that he was saying so because of the cameras. However, Diljit clarified that he has earnestly stated his fondness for the country in front of his staff before as well. He said in the interview:

"Mai poori duniya ghuma hu. Kuch ek-do jagah hi reh gayi hongi. Kahi shows kiye, kahi personal ghumne gaya hu. India the best hai. Mai bolne k liye nahi bol raha hu camera k saamne bas. Aap mere staff see puch sakte hai...India jesi jagah nahi hai duniya mai."

Netizens reacted to Diljit Dosanjh's praises of India 

One comment on Reddit said, "This guy seems to only care about money and maximizing his reach. Trolling both left and right for very long. Praises anybody and any place he's in front of at that moment. Then flip flops from one side to another after triggering one of them." Many people also pointed out that while Diljit called India 'the best', he lives in the U.S.A. Talking about this one Redditor stated,"Toh phir us main kyu rehta hai?" One commenter also made quip that it felt like Diljit was making these comments out of sarcasm. There were also a few Reddit users who supported Diljit and defended his patriotism. One commenter wrote, "The perspectives of these commenters seem heavily influenced by negativity and PR narratives. Diljit is just a Chill Guy.

Diljit Dosanjh's recent controversy with the Sardaar Ji 3 film 

Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa starrer, Sardaar Ji 3's trailer came as a shock to people when it featured Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir. There is currently a geo-ban on artists from Pakistan, and they are also not allowed to work on Indian projects, following the Pahalgam attacks. Hania had also shared a scathing tweet against India, which had further irked Indians. However, in an NDTV interview, the producer revealed the film was shot when the situation was 'normal' and there were no tensions. The film has also been released overseas and will not be shown in India. Amidst this controversy, several film bodies have also demanded a ban on Diljit Dosanjh. Meanwhile, boycott calls among the public are also intensifying for the singer. 

Diljit Dosanjh's statements on the Sardaar Ji 3 backlash 

Diljit Dosanjh sat for an interview with BBC Asian Network and broke his silence on the controversy. He stated that the relationship was better when the film was shot. Moreover, the producers had put in a lot of money, so they decided to release the film, albeit only overseas and not in India. Diljit said that the decision was made by the producers. And since they had invested the money and would incur a loss by not releasing it in India, he supported their decision to release it abroad. Talking about his Pakistani co-star, Hania Aamir, Diljit said that her respected her work and her privacy. But they only had 'to the point' conversations and nothing more.
