Diljit Dosanjh Did Not Give 'Lover' To Karan Johar As A Friendship Gesture, 'If I Can't Help..'

Diljit Dosanjh has become the talk of the town with his latest appearance on The Tonight Show, starring Jimmy Fallon. Apart from his growing global popularity, Diljit has also been making significant strides in his acting career. Diljit is popularly known to have a calm and friendly nature, and his co-stars often praise his demeanour. In 2023, Karan Johar shared an example of Diljit's generosity as he let the filmmaker-producer use his famous song, Lover, in his previous directorial project, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. In a recent conversation with Sucharita Tyagi on her YouTube channel, Diljit revealed the reason behind his gesture.

Diljit shared that he is willing to help those who have worked with him

Diljit Dosanjh shared that he had no issues letting Karan Johar use his song, Lover. The actor-singer said he did not make any friendly gestures for Karan Johar because he isn't friends with anyone in the industry. However, he is willing to help those who have worked with him. He was quoted as saying:

"I am not friends with anyone as such. If I have worked with someone once, and they need something, and if I can help them, then what is the point? If I was a doctor, I would have done his surgery for free (laughs). If one of my music producer friends does a song for me, then I sing a song for them. The only thing that matters is what you can do for someone you already know. That's all there is. There is nothing like I gave it for free."

Karan Johar was grateful to Diljit for letting him use his song, Lover

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was one of Karan Johar's most ambitious projects. Karan revealed that he had a vision of using Lover in the background when the characters of Rani and Rocky decide to exchange living with the other one's family. However, he learned that Lover was an expensive song, and he was not sure whether he could get it. In an interaction with Sucharita, he recalled the incident and said:

"I have to say, people have been so kind like Diljit, who owns the song Lover. I was told it is ridiculously expensive. I called him and I was asking him ' 'Paaji mujhe ye gana chahiye.’ He wasn't understanding at first and then I explained that I want to use the song in my movie, to which he gladly told me, 'Aap puch bhi kyun rahe ho, haq banta hai aapka".
