Diogo Jota, Liverpool Footballer, Died In A Car Crash At The Age Of 28, Just 10 Days After Wedding

Life is short, and the year 2025 is constantly reminding us that another innocent life was lost in a tragic car crash. Famous Liverpool footballer, Diogo Jota's passed away in the early hours of July 3, 2025, in a tragic car crash. The 28-year-old footballer was travelling with his brother, Andre Felipe, when the accident happened and they lost their lives in it.

Diogo Jota's unfortunate car crash: His Lamborghini caught fire 

The Portuguese player was with his brother, Andre Felipe, who was 25 years old. They were in northwestern Spain when their Lamborghini veered off the road and burst into flames. According to a statement from Spanish police, who collected all the evidence from the scene, it revealed that Jota's vehicle had a tyre burst while he was trying to overtake, leading to the unfortunate accident. 

Jota and his brother lost their lives in the fatal crash, and their bodies have been transported to a forensics unit in Zamora for autopsies. The entire football world is in shock and fans have been expressing their pain on social media. Liverpool FC, for whom Jota played his best years, expressed their deep sorrow. Their statement can be read as:

"Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed that the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre."

The Portuguese football federation also expressed their shock at Diogo and his brother's deaths in Spain. They remembered his extraordinary performance and the legacy he had left in the world. The statement can be read as:

"Utterly devastated by the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva this morning in Spain. Far beyond being an exceptional player, with nearly 50 caps for the National Team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all teammates and opponents, someone with a contagious joy and a reference within his own community."

Diogo Jota was born in Porto. He started his career with Pacos De Ferreira before he made his presence felt with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Later, in 2020, Jota joined Liverpool, and he is famous for scoring 65 goals in 182 appearances. He helped the club win the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup. He also earned 49 caps for Portugal and lifted the UEFA Nations League trophy twice in his short career. Talking about his achievements, Diogo once said:

"It is a remarkable achievement for a small guy that came from Gondomar, where I had this dream. It's a moment I will cherish forever."

Diogo Jota got married 10 days before the fatal accident

There is nothing more sad than the fact that Diogo was in the seventh heaven as he got married to his longtime girlfriend, Rute, on June 22, 2025. However, the couple never ever in the wildest dream thought that their happily-ever-after would end so soon.
