Nancy Guthrie's disappearance has gripped Arizona for nearly a month now. But while investigators continue to search for answers, it has also brought a rise in internet rumours on what might have happened to the 84-year-old or who might have taken her away. Some of these theories also drew innocent people into the spotlight. One of them is Dominic Evans, a Tucson elementary school teacher who once collaborated with Nancy's son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, in a band. After numerous alleged allegations, Dominic and his family have finally broken their silence, explaining how their lives have turned upside down since the 84-year-old's disappearance.
Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson-area home on February 1, 2026. While her family and friends are worried for her, Dominic Evans and his family revealed they are living in fear. According to the New York Times, the online speculations about Dominic's role in the case reached a point where strangers began gathering outside their home late at night. Sharing his ordeal, Dominic said:
"I feel like someone's taken my name… But for what reasons? I don't know, monetary, clickbait, to be relevant, entertainment, but some innocent people get hurt."

On the other hand, his wife, Andrea Evans, described how they spent nights hiding in their house, looking for a window to escape through. They tried to ensure that light could not enter their home to alert others. Andrea admitted she was scared watching cars pull outside her home to an extent that she had to send her 6-year-old son to stay somewhere else for his safety. Recalling the difficult moments, she said:
"It was all night, looking through the window, trying not to let any light out of our home. This one felt really, really, really scary, because it was like everyone was waiting for someone to come to our house."

Meanwhile, the law enforcement officials have publicly defended Dominic Evans, calling out the baseless rumours about his speculated role in Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who is leading the investigation in this case with the FBI, criticised the online accusations. He admitted that Dominic Evans and his family have been "going through hell". Chris told E! News that he no longer understands what he can say in this situation, except to suggest that Dominic speak with some attorneys and sue publications or people who allege his role in a libel suit. He confirmed that the investigators have not identified Dominic as a suspect in the case.

Dominic Evans' connection to the case appears to have started with his association with Nancy's family. He used to play drums in a band called Early Black with Nancy's son-in-law Tommaso Cioni. When some internet users began to examine everyone in Tommaso Cioni's life, they came across Dominic Evans' name. Subsequently, when the FBI released doorbell footage of a masked suspect seen near Nancy's home, some users claimed the individual resembled Dominic's body type and facial hair. Some internet users even found a 1999 misdemeanor theft case and a past DU fueling suspicion despite no confirmation about its authenticity.

Amid all the allegations, there are no clues about Nancy Guthrie in sight. According to multiple reports, authorities recently conducted what sources call a "final sweep" of her home. Similarly, the surveillance footage from the 84-year-old's home suggests that a masked suspect may have surveilled the property more than once before allegedly abducting Nancy on February 1, 2026. Meanwhile, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has announced it will stop providing daily updates and will release information only when there are major developments. At the same time, Nancy's family has raised a USD 1 million reward for information leading to her recovery.
