Drew Struzan was the legendary illustrator of Hollywood whose artistry manifested into iconic posters of films like Star Wars franchise, Harry Potter franchise, Blade Runner, Shawshank Redemption and more. Credited for making over 150 posters, Drew Struzan's death at the age of 78 has left an irreparable hole in the industry. Before passing away, Drew was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, as revealed by his wife, Dylan, who was his biggest supporter. Here's everything to know about her.
Drew Struzan and his wife, Dylan, were happily married for years and proved the age-old adage, 'till death do us part'. The couple met when Drew was in his first year of college, got married and welcomed their only child- son, Christian. They lived in California for most of their lives. After Drew retired from his job as a full-time illustrator, he spent much of his time with his wife and looking after their grandchildren.
In 2025, Dylan took to her husband's Facebook page and in an extensive statement revealed that Drew had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Apart from sharing about his issues, she also made people aware of the symptoms in her announcement. Dylan shared:
"Good morning all. I’m Drew’s wife, Dylan Struzan. I come to you with a heavy heart. Several years ago, Drew was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. As you may know, the early stages are a slow progression of forgetfulness. This happens in the brain when the proteins in the neurons begin to fold improperly. They are called tau tangles. Neurotransmitters can no longer transmit a thought. Think of it as a log jam."
Dylan also wrote that for years, she and Drew have tried to follow a regimen that will help to slow down the disease. However, she revealed that it wasn't the case for her husband. Drew could no longer paint or even sign autographs for his fans, she stated. Dylan strongly worded her statement and said that her husband was fighting for his life. She wrote:
"He is 'still in there' as they say. It seems that specialized brains have an advantage as their knowledge is part of the structure of the brain, not just an add-on stored in the brain. Nevertheless, the loss of coordination of moving the information from the brain to a functional expression short-changes abilities. Drew can no longer paint or sign things for you. He is not enjoying a well-deserved retirement but rather fighting for his life."

Drew Struzan had a penchant for painting from a young age and hence joined the ArtCenter College of Design. After contemplating between a career in fine arts and illustration, he chose the latter for better financial stability. He was first recognised for his talents after designing the cover for Alice Cooper's 1975 album, Welcome To My Nightmare. It was voted as one of the 100 Classic Album Covers by Rolling Stone. Then he founded his own company called the Pencil Pushers and did posters for smaller projects. However, when a friend asked him for help to paint the Star Wars poster in 1978, Drew Struzan's life drastically changed, and the rest became history.
Condolences to the loved ones of Drew Struzan. May he rest in peace.
