Dua Lipa now officially holds citizenship in Britain, Albania, and Kosovo. She was granted Albanian citizenship in 2022 for her contribution to promoting the country through her music. With the latest addition of Kosovan citizenship, Dua has now fully embraced her heritage from both her parents. Dua’s father, Dukagjin Lipa, and her mother, Anesa Lipa, are ethnic Albanians from Kosovo. The family originally hails from the city of Pristina, and they moved to the UK in the 1990s due to the unrest in the Balkans. Through her music and global platform, Dua has consistently celebrated her Albanian-Kosovan roots something that now reflects in her triple citizenship.
Though Dua was born in London, she moved to Pristina at the age of 11 when her parents returned to Kosovo after the state declared independence in 2008. She lived there for several years before returning to the UK at age of 15 to pursue her musical career. Dua has always spoken passionately about her love for Kosovo and has used her platform to promote its culture and talent.
Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani shared an update on her official social media account announcing that Dua Lipa has been awarded with Kosovan citizenship. Vjosa called Dua ‘one of the most iconic cultural figures in the country’s history.’ The moment was captured with photographs showing Dua holding her framed citizenship certificate standing besides the President. Her father, Dukagjin Lipa was also present during the ceremony. In her post, the President wrote:
‘Welcome home, Dua! Special honour that today, by presidential decree, to grant citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo to Dua Lipa, one of the most important cultural and artistic personalities in the history of our country.”
Dua Lipa took to her social media to express how grateful and honoured she felt after receiving her Kosovan citizenship. President Osmani’s words during the ceremony reflected similar emotions. According to her, Dua and Kosovo have always been inseparable. Dua shared the post made by President, Vjosa Osmani on her Instagram story. She wrote:

Adding to her initiation ceremony, Dua Lipa was welcomed by a group of children all dressed in white. They sang her chart-topping hit, Levitating, creating a heartfelt moment for the singer. The crowd’s love and excitement reflected how deeply she is admired back at home. The event was also attended by notable guests, including the UK Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, who praised Dua as ‘one of our own.’
Dua Lipa’s citizenship ceremony coincided with the Sunny Hill Festival, a major music event which was founded by Dua and her father in 2018. It is held in Pristina, and the festival aims to change the global perceptions of Kosovo. During the festival this year, Dua performed her song Era and headlined the festival on Friday night, August 1, 2025. She was also joined by her father on the stage.
