British number one, Emma Raducanu, has called it off with her coach, Francis Roig, just six months in. She had an early exit from the Australian Open and faced a defeat at the hands of Anastasia Potapova from Austria, who won the second set round at Melbourne Park. It was in August 2025 when Emma began her coaching with Roig, who is best known for coaching Rafael Nadal to 16 of his 22 major titles. Emma had announced her split from coach Francis Roig a week after she exited the Australian Open in the second round.
Emma had reportedly written on her social media, thanking Francis for the time they spent together. She shared that he was more than a coach to her and she would cherish the good times they spent together on the court. She revealed of coming to the conclusion together of not moving forward and expressed her gratefulness to Francis for teaching her and for the shared time.

Francis reportedly was hired by Emma in the summer of 2025. He had earlier worked with Rafael Nadal, but Emma had a frustrating defeat against Anastasia and reportedly called off her relationship with Francis. Emma's longest partnership was with her ex-coach, Nick Cavady, who had lasted for 14 months, reportedly between 2024 and 2025. Emma had earlier also revealed of being excited to work with Francis who was added to her team.

Francisco “Francis” Roig Genis has been one of the most known, experienced and respected coaches in modern professional tennis. The career of the Spanish coach has spanned both on the Association Of Tennis Professionals Tour as a player and also as a mentor. He has been in the spotlight recently, having coached Rafael Nadal and Emma Raducanu for a short time.

Francis Roig was born on April 1,1968, reportedly in Barcelona, Spain. He joined professional tennis back in 1987 and then carved a career for himself in the ATP circuit. During his time, Francis reached a high singles ranking of world no. 60 in October 1992. He won nine ATP World Tour doubles titles and never captured a singles title. After spending a decade on the ATP Tour, Roig retired in 2001 and moved into coaching. It defined the decades he used to follow.

Francis had a long-lasting partnership with Rafael Nadal, who is known to be one of the greatest tennis players in the world. It was in 2005 when Francis joined Rafael's coaching team as an alternate coach with Rafael's uncle, Toni Nadal, who has also been his longtime mentor. For two decades, Francis was part of Nadal's camp and worked with him, helping him win major titles.

Rafael Nadal's career achievements have been brilliant. He has 22 Grand Slam titles and weeks as the world number 1. The Spaniard's success was due to his grit, talent, determination, and the guidance of Francis. When Francis left his team, Rafael took to his Instagram handle to write:
"I want to inform you that Francis Roig is leaving my team and starting a new personal project as a coach... He started joining the team and worked with us together with my Uncle Toni and later with Carlos Moyá and recently Marc López. Francis has been an important person in my career and I am very grateful to him for all these years of work and friendship.”
Well, it was in December 2022 when Rafael revealed that Roig stepped away from his team to pursue a new personal project. Nadal, in a public statement, paid tribute to Roig's contributions for all 18 seasons and also called him a 'great coach' who helped him be better in the game. Rafael had penned:
"When we started working together I was a child and together with my Uncle Toni, we started on the circuit. Francis is a great coach who knows tennis very well and has helped me a lot to get better and better. I only have words of gratitude and I wish him all the luck in the world in his new project!”

Francis, after exiting Nadal's team, had coached many other top players. He had even coached Sloane Stephens back for the US Open Champion 2017, after exiting from Nadal's camp. Francis had also coached, Matteo Berrettini who has been an ex-Wimbledon finalist and also one of the top players of Italy. He was guided by Francis to win the ATP titles back in 2023 before their partnership ended in 2024.
