The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards celebrated some of the biggest TV series while acknowledging the actors and actresses. Just like every year, this year's Emmy Awards paid tributes to some of the late actors who passed away last year. Well, the memoriam segment has sparked anger among the viewers as it reportedly left out some legends. The show was hosted on Sunday, September 14, 2025, and the memoriam segment was introduced by Phylicia Rashad. At the segment, Lainey Wilson and Vince Gill performed Go Rest High on the Mountain, as the faces of the late actors filled the screens.
While it was an emotional moment as the beloved late actors were paid tribute, what grabbed the attention and sparked anger was the fact that some famous personalities who had passed away didn't appear on the screens, thereby not being included in the Emmys' memoriam. The actors who were remembered were Maggie Smith, John Amos, Loretta Swit, and Ozzy Osbourne. Well, Hulk Hogan and Tony Todd were not mentioned during the meomiram. Along with them, reportedly, the names of Danielle Spencer, Leslie Charleson, and Jerry Adler were not mentioned, which sparked anger among viewers. People have started discussing the same on X (Twitter).
One user commented, "#Emmys on their high horse, leave out Hulk Hogan from their In Memoriam segment. Maybe one day @HeymanHustle will get his wish and they’ll stop ignoring wrestling since it has been a staple of television ever since the medium was invented." Another user wrote, "Tony Todd did some great television. Multiple Star Trek appearances and The X-Files. This is outrageous." A third user angrily penned. "No Hulk Hogan remembrance? Crazy."
Hulk Hogan was a pop culture icon and legendary wrestler who passed away on July 26, 2025. Reports claimed that a heart attack was the reason he passed away; however, later it was revealed that he had undergone neck surgery a few weeks before his death, and an investigation revealed that his phrenic nerve was severed. Currently, the investigation into his death is ongoing, since it seemed unusual to his family members. Regarding Jerry Adler, he passed away in August 2025, at the age of 96. He was a famous American actor, director and theatrical producer, best known for his role on The Sopranos.
Another name, which was not mentioned at the Emmys 2025, causing anger among viewers, was Tony Todd, a famous Hollywood actor best known for his roles in Candyman, Final Destination, and Star Trek, among many other films and shows. It was back in November 2024, when Tony passed away after his battle with stomach cancer.
