Eric Dane's Battle With ALS Worsens, Will He Return To 'Euphoria 3' As 'Cal' Officially Revealed

Eric Dane has charmed the audience for decades with his portrayal of fan-favourite characters such as 'Dr. Mark Sloan' in Grey's Anatomy to 'Jason Dean' in Charmed. Eric had also received a lot of love for essaying the complicated character of 'Cal Jacobs' in the Emmy-nominated popular teen drama, Euphoria. However, in his personal life, Eric has been dealing with ALS, a disease that has led him to lose his motor functions gradually. Amid this, the cast of Euphoria season 3 has been announced. Eric Dane's ALS diagnosis: Health deteriorates, star seen struggling to get into a wheelchair 

Eric Dane, who revealed earlier in 2025 about his Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis diagnosis, was seen struggling to get into a wheelchair at the Toronto Airport. The Grey's Anatomy star was helped by a friend to get out of the car and be seated in a wheelchair, reported the New York Post. Fans also noted that Eric's health seemed to have deteriorated as the actor looked paler and thinner than in his previous appearances.

Eric also had to give a miss to the grand reunion of Grey's Anatomy at the Emmy Awards 2025. He revealed to the Washington Post that he had been looking forward to the reunion. However, during the Emmys, Eric was in the hospital getting stitches on his head. Revelations about Eric's recent health updates have fans praying for his well-being. 

Eric Dane in Euphoria 3 as 'Cal Jacobs', officially confirmed 

A few hours before Eric Dane's worsening condition with ALS was seen, the team of Euphoria officially revealed their new and returning starcast. As per the post, Eric Dane is going to make a comeback as 'Cal Jacobs' for the third season of the popular show. In the series, Eric plays the father of Jacob Elordi's character, 'Nate Jacobs'. He is part of the main cast, and his character arc is quite important for the central plot. 

As per multiple reports, Euphoria season 3 has begun production and will be hitting the floors in Spring 2026. Apart from Eric Dane, Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Colman Domingo, and many more are making a comeback on screen with Euphoria 3. Additionally, new faces have also been added to Euphoria, as recently announced.

Eric Dane's condition, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a disease that affects the nervous system, leading to deterioration of nerve cells. As a result, people suffering from this condition gradually lose their motor skills, such as their ability to walk, move their limbs, and even talk and breathe. The damage to brain cells can also result in dementia. Research yields the fact that ALS isn't curable as of now, but treatments can slow it down and manage the symptoms. In a chat with a lawmaker, Eric Dane expressed that he was determined to fight ALS and said:

"I have two daughters at home. I want to see them, you know, graduate college, and get married and maybe have grandkids, you know? I want to be there for all that. So, I’m going to fight to the last breath on this one."
