'Task' Returning With Another Season? Is Season 2 Likely To Deliver Anything New?

Crime drama Task concluded its last chapter, but there are some signs that the story could continue. Does this means we can get to see season 2 soon? Season 1 of Task has come to an end, and with that, we can say that the case is finally closed, but the show's future is uncertain. The show is created by Brad Ingelsby, and the HBO drama follows the story of an FBI agent. The thrilling finale has left fans buzzing with questions, eagerly anticipating whether Task will make a comeback for season 2. Time will tell, but HBO's Task has found a proven formula that works here, so it would be shocking if they didn't return again one way or another.

What’s the finale of Task?

The first season of Task premiered in September 2025. It follows FBI ‘Agent Tom’ (Mark Ruffalo), who leads a task force investigating a string of violent robberies carried out by a seemingly ordinary family man, ‘Robbie’ (Tom Pelphrey). HBO’s Task delivers the story of an FBI agent chasing a robber who targets a biker gang’s drug houses.

In the finale episode of Task, the case comes to an end, and all the major characters meet their fate. Despite all the bloodshed, ‘Tom Brandis’ is still left alive, and since he is still a part of the FBI, he might soon take on a new case. This would mean that the story must continue with a second season. 

What did Brad Ingelsby say about Task Season 2? 

Ingelsby, in an interview, didn’t give an update on the future of Task, but he emphasized his passion for storytelling, rooted in his hometown in suburban Philadelphia. In the conversation, he expressed that if people enjoy Task, he would absolutely love to share more stories about this place. He mentioned, "I truly feel I have more stories to tell," highlighting his passion for writing about it.

Ingelsby said that the series deeply resonates with locals, much like his other hit TV series, Mare of Easttown, which was also set in Delaware County. Further, he added he lives in Chester County, and that’s why the response is a bit louder. The first season concluded in May 2021, and till now, while there have been talks, nothing has been confirmed yet. As per an HBO executive, there are plans to continue the show, but it depends on Ingelsby and producer Mark Roybal. 

Who’s there in Task 1, and who will come in Task 2?

The HBO series Task has a strong cast to narrate the tale of the crime drama. Mark Ruffalo plays the role of ‘Tom,’ and Tom Pelphrey portrays ‘Robbie,’ a close friend of 'Tom.' Emilia Jones plays ‘Maeve,’ and Fabien Frankel plays ‘Anthony,’ while Thuso Mbedu stars as ‘Aleah.’ Alison Oliver is ‘Lizzie,’ and Silvia Dionicio plays ‘Emily,’ Martha Plimpton as ‘Kathleen McGinty.’ Finally, Raúl Castillo takes on the role of ‘Cliff.’ The first season of Task included the death of major characters, making it unlikely for most of them to return for season 2. Task Season 2 could feature Ruffalo returning as FBI Agent ‘Tom Brandis,’ though there is no update about the new cast.
