Wedding news from across the border-Pakistan’s prolific prime minister, Nawaz Sharif’s granddaughter Mehrun Nisa (daughter of Maryam Nawaz) got married to Raheel Munir, son of Pakistan’s well-known industrialist, Chaudhry Munir on December 26, 2015.

The ceremony was followed by Walima on December 27 in which Nawaz Sharif was seen sporting a pink turban gifted to him by none other than Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Indian PM, who recently made a surprise stop on Friday, i.e., December 25 in Pakistan on his way from Afghanistan en route to India, gifted the traditional “Rajasthani pink turban” to Shariff in lieu of his granddaughter’s wedding.

Sharif in turn, appreciated this grand gesture by wearing the turban on his granddaughter’s Walima while receiving the guests. In fact, his entire family could be seen donning the pink turbans including Sharif’s grandson, Muhammad Junaid Safdar.
Just like his elder son Husain’s wedding in the 90s, only selected footage of the wedding was released to the Media.

Both the groom and the bride, pass outs of London School of Economics and made a stunning pair at the wedding.
While the bride chose to wear a traditional red lehenga with heavy gold work, the groom looked dapper in an off-white traditional Pakistani sherwani. It is being said that British tailors were approached to prepare the wedding attires of the bride and groom.

The Walima ceremony that took place on Sunday evening was attended by more than 2,000 guests including VVIP guests who came all the way from Saudi Arabia to wish the newlywed couple.
Sources close to the Shariff family also revealed that Walima ceremonies will again take place in UAE and UK, as many friends of Shariff could not make it to Lahore at his Jati Umrah residence for the wedding.
